如果你吃的东西令弟兄姊妹不安，你就不是凭爱心行事。你不可因为一点食物而损害基督舍命救赎的人。所以，不要让你们认为好的事被别人诟病。因为上帝的国不是关乎吃什么喝什么，而是关乎公义、平安和圣灵所赐的喜乐。以这样的态度事奉基督的人才会得到上帝的喜悦和大家的称赞。所以，我们要努力追求和睦，彼此造就。不可因食物的问题而破坏上帝的工作。所有的食物固然都是洁净的，但人若因所吃的食物绊倒别人，就有罪了。无论是吃肉、喝酒还是做任何别的事，如果会绊倒别人，就应该一概不做。

但你们要小心，不要让你们的自由绊倒那些信心软弱的人。如果有人看见你这明白以上道理的人竟然坐在偶像的庙中吃喝，他虽然良心不安，岂不还是会放胆吃献给偶像的祭物吗？这样，你的知识反而令那软弱的人，就是基督舍命救回的弟兄沉沦。你们这样得罪弟兄，伤了他脆弱的良心，就是得罪基督。所以，如果我吃某些食物会令我的弟兄在信仰上跌倒，我就情愿永远不吃，免得令他们跌倒。
