My dear friends, run away from statues of gods. Don’t worship them.

So do not be idolaters, as some of them were. As it is written,“ The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play.”

Dear friends, I urge you as foreigners and exiles to keep away from fleshly desires that do battle against the soul,

Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that could defile the body and the spirit, and thus accomplish holiness out of reverence for God.

Do not avenge yourselves, dear friends, but give place to God’s wrath, for it is written,“ Vengeance is mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.
