Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.

But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one.

In your struggle against sin you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood.

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.

and he said to them,“ Why are you sleeping? Rise and pray that you may not enter into temptation.”

If this be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king.

As an example of suffering and patience, brothers, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.Behold, we consider those blessed who remained steadfast. You have heard of the steadfastness of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful.

Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations,

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

He delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. On him we have set our hope that he will deliver us again.

Three times I was shipwrecked; a night and a day I was adrift at sea;on frequent journeys, in danger from rivers, danger from robbers, danger from my own people, danger from Gentiles, danger in the city, danger in the wilderness, danger at sea, danger from false brothers;in toil and hardship, through many a sleepless night, in hunger and thirst, often without food, in cold and exposure.And, apart from other things, there is the daily pressure on me of my anxiety for all the churches.

We have escaped like a bird from the snare of the fowlers; the snare is broken, and we have escaped!

Women received back their dead by resurrection. Some were tortured, refusing to accept release, so that they might rise again to a better life.Others suffered mocking and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment.They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were killed with the sword. Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds.
