But God chose what the world thinks foolish to shame the wise, and God chose what the world thinks weak to shame the strong.

Listen, my dear brothers and sisters! Did not God choose the poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom that he promised to those who love him?

Where is the wise man? Where is the expert in the Mosaic law? Where is the debater of this age? Has God not made the wisdom of the world foolish?

At that time Jesus said,“ I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent, and revealed them to little children.

From the mouths of children and nursing babies you have ordained praise on account of your adversaries, so that you might put an end to the vindictive enemy.

This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, that has become the cornerstone.And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among people by which we must be saved.”When they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and discovered that they were uneducated and ordinary men, they were amazed and recognized these men had been with Jesus.And because they saw the man who had been healed standing with them, they had nothing to say against this.But when they had ordered them to go outside the council, they began to confer with one another,saying,“ What should we do with these men? For it is plain to all who live in Jerusalem that a notable miraculous sign has come about through them, and we cannot deny it.But to keep this matter from spreading any further among the people, let us warn them to speak no more to anyone in this name.”And they called them in and ordered them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.But Peter and John replied,“ Whether it is right before God to obey you rather than God, you decide,for it is impossible for us not to speak about what we have seen and heard.”After threatening them further, they released them, for they could not find how to punish them on account of the people, because they were all praising God for what had happened.

Therefore I will again do an amazing thing for these people– an absolutely extraordinary deed. Wise men will have nothing to say, the sages will have no explanations.”

for the weapons of our warfare are not human weapons, but are made powerful by God for tearing down strongholds. We tear down argumentsand every arrogant obstacle that is raised up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to make it obey Christ.

For I will give you the words along with the wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to withstand or contradict.

and said to him,“ Do you hear what they are saying?” Jesus said to them,“ Yes. Have you never read,‘ Out of the mouths of children and nursing infants you have prepared praise for yourself’?”

But we have this treasure in clay jars, so that the extraordinary power belongs to God and does not come from us.

Indeed, the LORD knocks down those who live in a high place, he brings down an elevated town; he brings it down to the ground, he throws it down to the dust.It is trampled under foot by the feet of the oppressed, by the soles of the poor.”

I will leave in your midst a humble and meek group of people, and they will find safety in the LORD’s presence.

because some say,“ His letters are weighty and forceful, but his physical presence is weak and his speech is of no account.”

The downtrodden will again rejoice in the LORD; the poor among humankind will take delight in the Holy One of Israel.

Some days later, when Felix arrived with his wife Drusilla, who was Jewish, he sent for Paul and heard him speak about faith in Christ Jesus.While Paul was discussing righteousness, self- control, and the coming judgment, Felix became frightened and said,“ Go away for now, and when I have an opportunity, I will send for you.”

But some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him,“ Teacher, rebuke your disciples.”He answered,“ I tell you, if they keep silent, the very stones will cry out!”

As he was walking by the Sea of Galilee he saw two brothers, Simon( called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea( for they were fishermen).He said to them,“ Follow me, and I will turn you into fishers of people.”They left their nets immediately and followed him.Going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in a boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. Then he called them.They immediately left the boat and their father and followed him.

As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax booth.“ Follow me,” he said to him. And he got up and followed him.

Also some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers were conversing with him, and some were asking,“ What does this foolish babbler want to say?” Others said,“ He seems to be a proclaimer of foreign gods.”( They said this because he was proclaiming the good news about Jesus and the resurrection.)

This same Moses they had rejected, saying,‘ Who made you a ruler and judge?’ God sent as both ruler and deliverer through the hand of the angel who appeared to him in the bush.

But some men from the Synagogue of the Freedmen( as it was called), both Cyrenians and Alexandrians, as well as some from Cilicia and the province of Asia, stood up and argued with Stephen.Yet they were not able to resist the wisdom and the Spirit with which he spoke.

When they heard these things, they became furious and ground their teeth at him.
