Where is the wise person? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has God not made foolish the wisdom of the world?

At that time Jesus said,“ I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent, and have revealed them to infants.

From the mouths of infants and nursing babies You have established strength Because of Your enemies, To do away with the enemy and the revengeful.

He is the stone which was rejected by you, the builders, but which became the chief cornerstone.And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among mankind by which we must be saved.”Now as they observed the confidence of Peter and John and understood that they were uneducated and untrained men, they were amazed, and began to recognize them as having been with Jesus.And seeing the man who had been healed standing with them, they had nothing to say in reply.But when they had ordered them to leave the Council, they began to confer with one another,saying,“ What are we to do with these men? For the fact that a noteworthy miracle has taken place through them is apparent to all who live in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it.But so that it will not spread any further among the people, let’s warn them not to speak any longer to any person in this name.”And when they had summoned them, they commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.But Peter and John answered and said to them,“ Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, make your own judgment;for we cannot stop speaking about what we have seen and heard.”When they had threatened them further, they let them go( finding no basis on which to punish them) on account of the people, because they were all glorifying God for what had happened;

Therefore behold, I will once again deal marvelously with this people, wondrously marvelous; And the wisdom of their wise men will perish, And the understanding of their men who have understanding will be concealed.”

for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses.We are destroying arguments and all arrogance raised against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ,

for I will provide you eloquence and wisdom which none of your adversaries will be able to oppose or refute.

and they said to Him,“ Do You hear what these children are saying?” And Jesus* said to them,“ Yes. Have you never read,‘ From the mouths of infants and nursing babies You have prepared praise for Yourself’?”

But we have this treasure in earthen containers, so that the extraordinary greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves;

For He has brought low those who dwell on high, the unassailable city; He lays it low, He lays it low to the ground, He casts it to the dust.The foot will trample it, The feet of the poor, the steps of the helpless.”

But I will leave among you A humble and lowly people, And they will take refuge in the name of the Lord.

For they say,“ His letters are weighty and strong, but his personal presence is unimpressive and his speech contemptible.”

The afflicted also will increase their joy in the Lord, And the needy of mankind will rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.

Now some days later Felix arrived with Drusilla his wife, who was Jewish, and he sent for Paul and heard him speak about faith in Christ Jesus.But as he was discussing righteousness, self control, and the judgment to come, Felix became frightened and responded,“ Go away for now, and when I have an opportunity, I will summon you.”

And yet some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Him,“ Teacher, rebuke Your disciples!”Jesus replied,“ I tell you, if these stop speaking, the stones will cry out!”

Now as Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon, who was called Peter, and his brother Andrew, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.And He* said to them,“ Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of people.”Immediately they left their nets and followed Him.Going on from there He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and his brother John, in the boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets; and He called them.Immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him.

As Jesus went on from there, He saw a man called Matthew sitting in the tax collector’s office; and He* said to him,“ Follow Me!” And he got up and followed Him.

And some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers as well were conversing with him. Some were saying,“ What could this scavenger of tidbits want to say?” Others,“ He seems to be a proclaimer of strange deities,”— because he was preaching Jesus and the resurrection.

“ This Moses whom they disowned, saying,‘ Who made you a ruler and a judge?’ is the one whom God sent to be both a ruler and a deliverer with the help of the angel who appeared to him in the thorn bush.

But some men from what was called the Synagogue of the Freedmen, including both Cyrenians and Alexandrians, and some from Cilicia and Asia, rose up and argued with Stephen.But they were unable to cope with his wisdom and the Spirit by whom he was speaking.

Now when they heard this, they were infuriated, and they began gnashing their teeth at him.
