雖然、世俗所視為愚者、天主則簡拔之、以愧眾哲；世俗所視為弱者、天主則簡拔之、以勝強有力者；

神却拣选了世上愚拙的，叫有智慧的羞愧；又拣选了世上软弱的，叫那强壮的羞愧。

親愛之兄弟、爾其諦聽、斯世之貧人、乃天主之所眷顧、使其富於信德、而簡為天國之嗣子。蓋天國特為愛慕天主之人而設也。

而今哲人安在哉？經師安在哉？世之辯士又安在哉？此非天主已使世俗之智化為下愚乎？

爾時耶穌又言曰：『頌揚聖父、天地真主！蓋爾隱此道於智巧之人、而啟之於赤子；

我主在天上。聖名天下揚。諸天現光彩。妙手運陰陽。

耶穌者即「梓人所棄、竟成隅石」者是。舍彼而外、別無救主；普天之下、更無其他名義、可恃以獲救恩。』眾見伯鐸祿若望侃侃而談、且識其為不學小民、素樸之人、皆不勝驚訝、意必曾親炙耶穌者、復睹跛者挺然與之並立、無可置辯、命暫退。互議曰：『是二人者、何以處之？彼所行者、顯係神蹟、耶路撒冷居民未有不悉其事者、自難否認、第恐流傳益廣、當加以警誡、使勿再奉耶穌之名以訓人。』復召之至、如議戒之；伯鐸祿若望曰：『順爾旨而背天主、爾自分於理有當否？凡吾輩所見所聞、不得不言也。』有司格於輿情、未敢加責、乃警而釋之。蓋眾睹奇行、咸尊天主、

因吾人作戰之武器、非屬形而下者、顧賴主之力其效能則足以掃蕩一切險固之壁壘。凡妄自尊大之幻想、違抗天主聖道之妄念、皆在摧毀之列；務使一思一念、順服基督而後已。

予當賜爾靈慧口才、非爾敵人所能駁覆。

乃謂耶穌曰：『爾不聞若輩所言乎？』耶穌答曰：『聞也；然爾豈未讀「卻從赤子乳香口、引出千秋美譽芳。」』

然此真光之在吾人、猶珍寶之藏於瓦器也。應知可貴者在天主之德、而不在吾人之身。

頗聞人言：『彼之書札、雖雷厲風行；而彼之形軀、則柔弱無能、言語更無足輕重。』

越數日、裴力斯偕其妻猶太女子土西拉至、召葆樂、欲聽耶穌基督之道、葆樂為之講述正義、貞節、及未來之審判。裴力斯恐懼曰：『汝今且去、有暇當再邀汝。』

眾中有法利塞數人、謂耶穌曰：『夫子、請斥責汝徒。』耶穌應曰：『予實語爾、彼即噤口、石亦鳴矣。』

行經加利利河濱、見兄弟二人、一為西門即伯鐸祿、一為其弟安德烈、正投網海中；漁夫也。耶穌謂之曰：『從予、將使爾為生靈漁夫。』二人立棄其網而從之。復前行、又見兄弟二人、即慈伯德子雅各伯暨弟若望、與父慈伯德修網舟中；召之、亦即捨網謝父而從。

耶穌他適、途中見一人、坐稅關、名瑪竇、召之曰：『從予。』即起而從之。

更有以彼古羅及斯多亞派哲學家數人起而與之詰辯。或曰：『此喋喋者、果欲何言？』或曰：『似宣傳異邦之鬼神者。』以葆樂言必稱耶穌及其復活、故云。

曩者、被人拒斥「孰令長吾而為司讞」者、即此摩西也、而天主使天神顯現棘叢之中、命其領導義塞、救拔義塞者、即此摩西也。

而利伯地拿、古利奈、亞力山大、基利家、亞細亞諸地之公會、有人起而與之辯難。司諦文憑其智慧靈感、應對沛然、無能禦之者。

眾聞是語對司諦文痛心疾首、忿恚滋甚。
