神卻揀選了世上愚拙的，叫有智慧的羞愧；又揀選了世上軟弱的，叫那強壯的羞愧。

乃上帝選世之愚者、以愧智者、選世之弱者、以愧強者、

乃上帝選世之不智、以愧智者、選世之不能、以愧能者、

乃天主選世之愚者、以愧智者、選世之弱者、以愧強者、

雖然、世俗所視為愚者、天主則簡拔之、以愧眾哲；世俗所視為弱者、天主則簡拔之、以勝強有力者；

我親愛的弟兄們，請聽，神豈不是揀選了世上的貧窮人，叫他們在信上富足，並承受他所應許給那些愛他之人的國嗎？

智慧人在哪裏？文士在哪裏？這世上的辯士在哪裏？神豈不是叫這世上的智慧變成愚拙嗎？

那時，耶穌說：「父啊，天地的主，我感謝你！因為你將這些事向聰明通達人就藏起來，向嬰孩就顯出來。

你因敵人的緣故，從嬰孩和吃奶的口中，建立了能力，使仇敵和報仇的閉口無言。

他是你們匠人所棄的石頭，已成了房角的頭塊石頭。除他以外，別無拯救；因為在天下人間，沒有賜下別的名，我們可以靠着得救。」他們見彼得、約翰的膽量，又看出他們原是沒有學問的小民，就希奇，認明他們是跟過耶穌的；又看見那治好了的人和他們一同站着，就無話可駁。於是吩咐他們從公會出去，就彼此商議說：「我們當怎樣辦這兩個人呢？因為他們誠然行了一件明顯的神蹟，凡住耶路撒冷的人都知道，我們也不能說沒有。惟恐這事越發傳揚在民間，我們必須恐嚇他們，叫他們不再奉這名對人講論。」於是叫了他們來，禁止他們總不可奉耶穌的名講論教訓人。彼得、約翰說：「聽從你們，不聽從神，這在神面前合理不合理，你們自己酌量吧！我們所看見所聽見的，不能不說。」官長為百姓的緣故，想不出法子刑罰他們，又恐嚇一番，把他們釋放了。這是因眾人為所行的奇事都歸榮耀與神。

所以，我在這百姓中要行奇妙的事，就是奇妙又奇妙的事。他們智慧人的智慧必然消滅，聰明人的聰明必然隱藏。

我們爭戰的兵器本不是屬血氣的，乃是在神面前有能力，可以攻破堅固的營壘，將各樣的計謀，各樣攔阻人認識神的那些自高之事，一概攻破了，又將人所有的心意奪回，使他都順服基督。

因為我必賜你們口才、智慧，是你們一切敵人所敵不住、駁不倒的。

對他說：「這些人所說的，你聽見了嗎？」耶穌說：「是的。經上說『你從嬰孩和吃奶的口中完全了讚美』的話，你們沒有念過嗎？」

我們有這寶貝放在瓦器裏，要顯明這莫大的能力是出於神，不是出於我們。

他使住高處的與高城一併敗落，將城拆毀，拆平，直到塵埃，要被腳踐踏，就是被困苦人的腳和窮乏人的腳踐踏。

我卻要在你中間留下困苦貧寒的民；他們必投靠我－耶和華的名。

因為有人說：「他的信又沉重又厲害，及至見面，卻是氣貌不揚，言語粗俗的。」

謙卑人必因耶和華增添歡喜；人間貧窮的必因以色列的聖者快樂。

過了幾天，腓力斯和他夫人－猶太的女子土西拉－一同來到，就叫了保羅來，聽他講論信基督耶穌的道。保羅講論公義、節制，和將來的審判。腓力斯甚覺恐懼，說：「你暫且去吧，等我得便再叫你來。」

眾人中有幾個法利賽人對耶穌說：「夫子，責備你的門徒吧！」耶穌說：「我告訴你們，若是他們閉口不說，這些石頭必要呼叫起來。」

耶穌在加利利海邊行走，看見弟兄二人，就是那稱呼彼得的西門和他兄弟安得烈，在海裏撒網；他們本是打魚的。耶穌對他們說：「來跟從我，我要叫你們得人如得魚一樣。」他們就立刻捨了網，跟從了他。從那裏往前走，又看見弟兄二人，就是西庇太的兒子雅各和他兄弟約翰，同他們的父親西庇太在船上補網，耶穌就招呼他們，他們立刻捨了船，別了父親，跟從了耶穌。

耶穌從那裏往前走，看見一個人名叫馬太，坐在稅關上，就對他說：「你跟從我來。」他就起來跟從了耶穌。

還有伊壁鳩魯和斯多亞兩門的學士，與他爭論。有的說：「這胡言亂語的要說甚麼？」有的說：「他似乎是傳說外邦鬼神的。」這話是因保羅傳講耶穌與復活的道。

這摩西就是百姓棄絕說『誰立你作我們的首領和審判官』的；神卻藉那在荊棘中顯現之使者的手差派他作首領、作救贖的。

當時有稱利百地拿會堂的幾個人，並有古利奈、亞歷山大、基利家、亞細亞各處會堂的幾個人，都起來和司提反辯論。司提反是以智慧和聖靈說話，眾人敵擋不住，

眾人聽見這話就極其惱怒，向司提反咬牙切齒。
