神却拣选了世上愚拙的，叫有智慧的羞愧；又拣选了世上软弱的，叫那强壮的羞愧。

我亲爱的弟兄姊妹，请听我说，上帝不是拣选了穷人，使他们在信心上富足，并承受祂应许赐给那些爱祂之人的国度吗？

这个世代所谓的智者、学者、雄辩家在哪里？上帝岂不是把这世上的智慧都变成愚昧了吗？

那时，耶稣说：“父啊，天地的主，我颂赞你，因为你把这些事向聪明、有学问的人隐藏起来，却启示给像孩童一般的人。

你使孩童和婴儿的口发出颂赞，好叫你的仇敌哑口无言。

“‘祂是你们工匠丢弃的石头，已成了房角石。’除祂以外，别无救主，因为普天之下没有赐下别的名我们可以靠着得救！”在场的人看到彼得和约翰的胆量，又知道他们原是没有学问的平民百姓，都很惊奇。他们认出这些人跟随过耶稣，又见那被医好的瘸子站在他们旁边，便无话可说，只好暂时把他们押下去，然后彼此商量说：“我们该怎样处置这两个人呢？整个耶路撒冷的居民都知道他们行了一个神迹，我们无法否认。为了避免这件事传得更广，我们必须警告他们以后不许再对任何人传讲耶稣的事。”于是，他们又把使徒传来，严令他们不许再奉耶稣的名讲论或传道。但彼得和约翰答道：“要我们听从你们而不听从上帝，这在上帝看来合理吗？你们自己想想吧。我们耳闻目睹的，不能不说！”官长实在不知道如何惩治使徒，只好再三恐吓之后把他们放了，因为百姓都为这个神迹赞美上帝。

所以，我要再次行奇妙无比的事，使他们震惊。他们智者的智慧必泯灭，明哲的聪明必消失。”

我们争战的兵器不是属血气的，乃是从上帝而来的能力，可以摧毁坚固的营垒，击破一切的谬论和阻碍人们认识上帝的骄傲言论，夺回被掳去的心思意念，使其顺服基督。

因为我会赐给你们口才、智慧，使你们的仇敌全无反驳的余地。

他们责问耶稣说：“你听见这些人说的了吗？”耶稣说：“我听见了。圣经上说，‘你使孩童和婴儿口中发出颂赞’，你们没有读过吗？”

我们不过是瓦器，里面却有这宝贝，要显明这莫大的能力是上帝的，而不是我们自己的。

祂贬抑高傲的人，拆毁他们高耸的城邑，把它们夷为平地、化为尘土，被困苦人的脚践踏，被贫穷人的足踩踏。”

我必把谦卑贫苦的人留在你那里，他们必投靠在我耶和华的名下。

因为有人说：“他信中的话有分量，很严厉，他本人却软弱无能，言语粗俗。”

卑微的人必因耶和华而欢喜，贫穷的人必因以色列的圣者而快乐。

几天后，腓利斯和他的妻子犹太人土西拉一同来了，召见保罗，听他讲信基督耶稣的事。当保罗讲到公义、节制和将来的审判时，腓利斯十分恐惧，说：“你先下去吧，改天有机会，我再叫你来。”

百姓中有几个法利赛人对耶稣说：“老师，你要责备你的门徒。”耶稣说：“我告诉你们，如果他们闭口不言，这些石头都要呼喊了！”

耶稣沿着加利利湖边行走的时候，看见被称为彼得的西门和安得烈两兄弟正在撒网打鱼，他们是渔夫。耶稣对他们说：“来跟从我！我要使你们成为得人的渔夫。”他们立刻撇下渔网，跟从了耶稣。耶稣再往前走，又看见雅各和约翰两兄弟正和父亲西庇太一起在船上补渔网。耶稣呼召他们，他们马上离开渔船，辞别父亲，跟从了耶稣。

耶稣离开那里往前走，看见一个名叫马太的人坐在收税站里，便对他说：“跟从我！”马太就站起来跟从了耶稣。

还有一些伊壁鸠鲁和斯多亚学派的哲学家和保罗争论，有人嘲笑他说：“这人在胡说八道些什么呀？”还有人说：“他好像在宣扬外国的神明。”他们这样说是因为保罗在传讲耶稣和祂复活的福音。

“百姓曾拒绝这位摩西，说，‘谁立你做我们的首领和审判官？’上帝却借着在荆棘中显现的天使亲自差遣他，立他为首领和拯救者。

但有些来自古利奈、亚历山大、基利迦和亚细亚、属于“自由人会堂”的犹太人联合起来与司提凡辩论。他们无法驳倒司提凡，因为他靠着智慧和圣灵说话。

众人听了这番话，怒火中烧，咬牙切齿。
