Oh, the depth of the riches, both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways!For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who became His counselor?Or who has first given to Him, that it would be paid back to him?For from Him, and through Him, and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen.

but God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong,and the insignificant things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify the things that are,so that no human may boast before God.

The Lord also will save the tents of Judah first, so that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem will not be greater than Judah.On that day the Lord will protect the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the one who is feeble among them on that day will be like David, and the house of David will be like God, like the angel of the Lord before them.

And the Lord said to Gideon,“ The people who are with you are too many for Me to hand Midian over to them, otherwise Israel would become boastful, saying,‘ My own power has saved me.’Now therefore come, proclaim in the hearing of the people, saying,‘ Whoever is afraid and worried, is to return and leave Mount Gilead.’ ” So twenty two thousand from the people returned, but ten thousand remained.Then the Lord said to Gideon,“ The people are still too many; bring them down to the water and I will test them for you there. So it shall be that he of whom I say to you,‘ This one shall go with you,’ he shall go with you; but everyone of whom I say to you,‘ This one shall not go with you,’ he shall not go.”So he brought the people down to the water. Then the Lord said to Gideon,“ You shall put everyone who laps the water with his tongue as a dog laps in one group, and everyone who kneels down to drink in another.”Now the number of those who lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, was three hundred men; but all the rest of the people kneeled down to drink water.And the Lord said to Gideon,“ I will save you with the three hundred men who lapped, and will hand the Midianites over to you; so have all the other people go, each man to his home.”So the three hundred men took the people’s provisions and their trumpets in their hands. And Gideon dismissed all the other men of Israel, each to his tent, but retained the three hundred men; and the camp of Midian was below him in the valley.

Then he took his staff in his hand and chose for himself five smooth stones from the brook, and put them in the shepherd’s bag which he had, that is, in his shepherd’s pouch, and his sling was in his hand; and he approached the Philistine.Then the Philistine came and approached David, with the shield bearer in front of him.When the Philistine looked and saw David, he was contemptuous of him; for he was only a youth, and reddish, with a handsome appearance.So the Philistine said to David,“ Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.The Philistine also said to David,“ Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the sky and the wild animals.”But David said to the Philistine,“ You come to me with a sword, a spear, and a saber, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of armies, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.This day the Lord will hand you over to me, and I will strike you and remove your head from you. Then I will give the dead bodies of the army of the Philistines this day to the birds of the sky and the wild animals of the earth, so that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel,and that this entire assembly may know that the Lord does not save by sword or by spear; for the battle is the Lord’s, and He will hand you over to us!”Then it happened, when the Philistine came closer to meet David, that David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet the Philistine.And David put his hand into his bag and took from it a stone and slung it, and struck the Philistine on his forehead. And the stone penetrated his forehead, and he fell on his face to the ground.So David prevailed over the Philistine with the sling and the stone: he struck the Philistine and killed him, and there was no sword in David’s hand.Then David ran and stood over the Philistine, and took his sword and drew it out of its sheath and finished him, and cut off his head with it. When the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled.

But Ahab said,“ By whom?” So he said,“ The Lord says this:‘ By the young men of the leaders of the provinces.’ ” Then he said,“ Who will begin the battle?” And he said,“ You will.”So he mustered the young men of the leaders of the provinces, and there were 232; and after them he mustered all the people, all the sons of Israel: seven thousand.They went out at noon, while Ben hadad was drinking himself drunk in the temporary shelters with the thirty two kings who were helping him.The young men of the leaders of the provinces went out first; and Ben hadad sent out scouts, and they reported to him, saying,“ Men have come out from Samaria.”Then he said,“ If they have come out for peace, take them alive; or if they have come out for war, take them alive as well.”So these men went out from the city, the young men of the leaders of the provinces, and the army which followed them.And they killed, each one, his man; and the Arameans fled and Israel pursued them, and Ben hadad the king of Aram escaped on a horse with horsemen.The king of Israel also went out and struck the horses and chariots, and killed the Arameans in a great slaughter.Then the prophet approached the king of Israel and said to him,“ Go, show yourself courageous and be aware and see what you have to do; for at the turn of the year the king of Aram will march against you.”

“ Tell the sons of Israel to turn back and camp in front of Pi hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea; you shall camp in front of Baal zephon, opposite it, by the sea.For Pharaoh will say of the sons of Israel,‘ They are wandering aimlessly in the land; the wilderness has shut them in.’And I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and he will chase after them; and I will be honored through Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord.” And they did so.

Now when Pharaoh had let the people go, God did not lead them by the way of the land of the Philistines, even though it was near; for God said,“ The people might change their minds when they see war, and return to Egypt.”

But the Lord said to Joshua,“ See, I have handed Jericho over to you, with its king and the valiant warriors.And you shall march around the city, all the men of war circling the city once. You shall do so for six days.Also seven priests shall carry seven trumpets of rams’ horns in front of the ark; then on the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets.It shall be that when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city will fall down flat, and the people shall go up, everyone straight ahead.”

Then he found a fresh jawbone of a donkey, so he reached out with his hand and took it, and killed a thousand men with it.And Samson said,“ With the jawbone of a donkey, Heaps upon heaps, With the jawbone of a donkey I have killed a thousand men.”
