Shallum son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his fellow gatekeepers from his family( the Korahites) were responsible for guarding the thresholds of the tent just as their ancestors had been responsible for guarding the entrance to the dwelling of the Lord.

Shallum was the son of Kore. Kore was the son of Ebiasaph. Ebiasaph was the son of Korah. Shallum and the other Levites in his family belonged to the family line of Korah. They had the duty of guarding the entrances to the tent. From long ago, their people had the duty of guarding the entrance to the house of the Lord.

Shallum the son of Kore, son of Ebiasaph, son of Korah, and his kinsmen of his fathers’ house, the Korahites, were in charge of the work of the service, keepers of the thresholds of the tent, as their fathers had been in charge of the camp of the Lord, keepers of the entrance.

Shallum was the son of Kore, a descendant of Abiasaph, from the clan of Korah. He and his relatives, the Korahites, were responsible for guarding the entrance to the sanctuary, just as their ancestors had guarded the Tabernacle in the camp of the Lord.

The sons of Shemaiah: Othni, Rephael, Obed and Elzabad; his relatives Elihu and Semakiah were also able men.All these were descendants of Obed-Edom; they and their sons and their relatives were capable men with the strength to do the work— descendants of Obed-Edom, 62 in all.

Now this is what you are to do: A third of you priests and Levites who are going on duty on the Sabbath are to keep watch at the doors,a third of you at the royal palace and a third at the Foundation Gate, and all the others are to be in the courtyards of the temple of the Lord.No one is to enter the temple of the Lord except the priests and Levites on duty; they may enter because they are consecrated, but all the others are to observe the Lord’s command not to enter.The Levites are to station themselves around the king, each with weapon in hand. Anyone who enters the temple is to be put to death. Stay close to the king wherever he goes.”The Levites and all the men of Judah did just as Jehoiada the priest ordered. Each one took his men— those who were going on duty on the Sabbath and those who were going off duty— for Jehoiada the priest had not released any of the divisions.Then he gave the commanders of units of a hundred the spears and the large and small shields that had belonged to King David and that were in the temple of God.He stationed all the men, each with his weapon in his hand, around the king— near the altar and the temple, from the south side to the north side of the temple.

The descendants of Kohath: Amminadab his son, Korah his son, Assir his son,Elkanah his son, Ebiasaph his son, Assir his son,

and the sons of Eliab were Nemuel, Dathan and Abiram. The same Dathan and Abiram were the community officials who rebelled against Moses and Aaron and were among Korah’s followers when they rebelled against the Lord.The earth opened its mouth and swallowed them along with Korah, whose followers died when the fire devoured the 250 men. And they served as a warning sign.The line of Korah, however, did not die out.

Jehoiada the priest ordered the commanders of units of a hundred, who were in charge of the troops:“ Bring her out between the ranks and put to the sword anyone who follows her.” For the priest had said,“ She must not be put to death in the temple of the Lord.”

Lots were cast for each gate, according to their families, young and old alike.The lot for the East Gate fell to Shelemiah. Then lots were cast for his son Zechariah, a wise counselor, and the lot for the North Gate fell to him.The lot for the South Gate fell to Obed-Edom, and the lot for the storehouse fell to his sons.The lots for the West Gate and the Shalleketh Gate on the upper road fell to Shuppim and Hosah. Guard was alongside of guard:There were six Levites a day on the east, four a day on the north, four a day on the south and two at a time at the storehouse.As for the court to the west, there were four at the road and two at the court itself.These were the divisions of the gatekeepers who were descendants of Korah and Merari.

We have heard it with our ears, O God; our ancestors have told us what you did in their days, in days long ago.

Hear this, all you peoples; listen, all who live in this world,

The commanders of units of a hundred did just as Jehoiada the priest ordered. Each one took his men— those who were going on duty on the Sabbath and those who were going off duty— and came to Jehoiada the priest.

As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God.

Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.
