Shallum son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his fellow gatekeepers from his family( the Korahites) were responsible for guarding the thresholds of the tent just as their ancestors had been responsible for guarding the entrance to the dwelling of the Lord.

This[ is] the thing that ye shall do; A third part of you entering on the sabbath, of the priests and of the Levites,[ shall be] porters of the doors;And a third part[ shall be] at the king’s house; and a third part at the gate of the foundation: and all the people[ shall be] in the courts of the house of the LORD.But let none come into the house of the LORD, save the priests, and they that minister of the Levites; they shall go in, for they[ are] holy: but all the people shall keep the watch of the LORD.And the Levites shall compass the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand; and whosoever[ else] cometh into the house, he shall be put to death: but be ye with the king when he cometh in, and when he goeth out.So the Levites and all Judah did according to all things that Jehoiada the priest had commanded, and took every man his men that were to come in on the sabbath, with them that were to go[ out] on the sabbath: for Jehoiada the priest dismissed not the courses.Moreover Jehoiada the priest delivered to the captains of hundreds spears, and bucklers, and shields, that[ had been] king David’s, which[ were] in the house of God.And he set all the people, every man having his weapon in his hand, from the right side of the temple to the left side of the temple, along by the altar and the temple, by the king round about.

But Jehoiada the priest commanded the captains of the hundreds, the officers of the host, and said unto them, Have her forth without the ranges: and him that followeth her kill with the sword. For the priest had said, Let her not be slain in the house of the LORD.

And they cast lots, as well the small as the great, according to the house of their fathers, for every gate.And the lot eastward fell to Shelemiah. Then for Zechariah his son, a wise counsellor, they cast lots; and his lot came out northward.To Obededom southward; and to his sons the house of Asuppim.To Shuppim and Hosah[ the lot came forth] westward, with the gate Shallecheth, by the causeway of the going up, ward against ward.Eastward[ were] six Levites, northward four a day, southward four a day, and toward Asuppim two[ and] two.At Parbar westward, four at the causeway,[ and] two at Parbar.These[ are] the divisions of the porters among the sons of Kore, and among the sons of Merari.

We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us,[ what] work thou didst in their days, in the times of old.

Hear this, all[ ye] people; give ear, all[ ye] inhabitants of the world:

And the captains over the hundreds did according to all[ things] that Jehoiada the priest commanded: and they took every man his men that were to come in on the sabbath, with them that should go out on the sabbath, and came to Jehoiada the priest.

As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.

For a day in thy courts[ is] better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.
