and Heman’s associate Asaph, who served at his right hand: Asaph son of Berekiah, the son of Shimea,

Heman had a relative named Asaph. Asaph served as Heman’s helper at his right side. Asaph was the son of Berekiah. Berekiah was the son of Shimea.

Heman’s first assistant was Asaph from the clan of Gershon. Asaph’s genealogy was traced back through Berekiah, Shimea,

All the Levites who were musicians, including Asaph, Heman, Jeduthun, and their sons and relatives, wore linen. They played cymbals and stringed instruments as they stood east of the altar. They were accompanied by 120 priests who blew trumpets.

Mattaniah son of Mica, the son of Zabdi, the son of Asaph, the praise leader who led in thanksgiving and prayer; Bakbukiah, second among his colleagues; and Abda son of Shammua, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun.

From the sons of Asaph: Zaccur, Joseph, Nethaniah, and Asarelah. The sons of Asaph were supervised by Asaph, who prophesied under the king’s supervision.

Shout for joy to God, our source of strength! Shout out to the God of Jacob!

That day David first gave to Asaph and his colleagues this song of thanks to the LORD:

O God, do not be silent! Do not ignore us! Do not be inactive, O God!

The overseer of the Levites in Jerusalem was Uzzi son of Bani, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Mattaniah, the son of Mica. He was one of Asaph’s descendants who were the singers responsible for the service of the temple of God.

El, God, the LORD speaks, and summons the earth to come from the east and west.

O shepherd of Israel, pay attention, you who lead Joseph like a flock of sheep! You who sit enthroned above the winged angels, reveal your splendor!

Certainly God is good to Israel, and to those whose motives are pure!

For long ago, in the days of David and Asaph, there had been directors for the singers and for the songs of praise and thanks to God.

When the builders established the LORD’s temple, the priests, ceremonially attired and with their clarions, and the Levites( the sons of Asaph) with their cymbals, stood to praise the LORD according to the instructions left by King David of Israel.

God has revealed himself in Judah; in Israel his reputation is great.

The musicians, the descendants of Asaph, manned their posts, as prescribed by David, Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun the king’s prophet. The guards at the various gates did not need to leave their posts, for their fellow Levites made preparations for them.

We give thanks to you, O God! We give thanks! You reveal your presence; people tell about your amazing deeds.

God stands in the assembly of El; in the midst of the gods he renders judgment.

Pay attention, my people, to my instruction! Listen to the words I speak!

So the Levites appointed Heman son of Joel; one of his relatives, Asaph son of Berechiah; one of the descendants of Merari, Ethan son of Kushaiah;along with some of their relatives who were second in rank, including Zechariah, Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-Edom, and Jeiel, the gatekeepers.The musicians Heman, Asaph, and Ethan were to sound the bronze cymbals;

some of the priests with trumpets, Zechariah son of Jonathan, the son of Shemaiah, the son of Mattaniah, the son of Micaiah, the son of Zaccur, the son of Asaph,

Then in the midst of the assembly, the LORD’s Spirit came upon Jachaziel son of Zechariah, son of Benaiah, son of Jeiel, son of Mattaniah, a Levite and descendant of Asaph.

Why, O God, have you permanently rejected us? Why does your anger burn against the sheep of your pasture?

O God, foreigners have invaded your chosen land; they have polluted your holy temple and turned Jerusalem into a heap of ruins.

King Hezekiah and the officials told the Levites to praise the LORD, using the psalms of David and Asaph the prophet. So they joyfully offered praise and bowed down and worshiped.
