所羅門就在耶路撒冷、耶和華向他父大衛顯現的摩利亞山上，就是耶布斯人阿珥楠的禾場上、大衛所指定的地方預備好了，開工建造耶和華的殿。

殿前的廊子長二十肘，與殿的寬窄一樣，高一百二十肘；裏面貼上精金。

以色列人出埃及地後四百八十年，所羅門作以色列王第四年西弗月，就是二月，開工建造耶和華的殿。所羅門王為耶和華所建的殿，長六十肘，寬二十肘，高三十肘。殿前的廊子長二十肘，與殿的寬窄一樣，闊十肘；又為殿做了嚴緊的窗櫺。靠着殿牆，圍着外殿內殿，造了三層旁屋；下層寬五肘，中層寬六肘，上層寬七肘。殿外旁屋的樑木擱在殿牆坎上，免得插入殿牆。建殿是用山中鑿成的石頭。建殿的時候，鎚子、斧子，和別樣鐵器的響聲都沒有聽見。

祭司亞撒利雅率領耶和華勇敢的祭司八十人，跟隨他進去。他們就阻擋烏西雅王，對他說：「烏西雅啊，給耶和華燒香不是你的事，乃是亞倫子孫承接聖職祭司的事。你出聖殿吧！因為你犯了罪。你行這事，耶和華神必不使你得榮耀。」烏西雅就發怒，手拿香爐要燒香。他向祭司發怒的時候，在耶和華殿中香壇旁眾祭司面前，額上忽然發出大痲瘋。大祭司亞撒利雅和眾祭司觀看，見他額上發出大痲瘋，就催他出殿；他自己也急速出去，因為耶和華降災與他。
