所罗门就在耶路撒冷、耶和华向他父大卫显现的摩利亚山上，就是耶布斯人阿珥楠的禾场上、大卫所指定的地方预备好了，开工建造耶和华的殿。

殿前的廊子长二十肘，与殿的宽窄一样，高一百二十肘；里面贴上精金。

以色列人出埃及地后四百八十年，所罗门作以色列王第四年西弗月，就是二月，开工建造耶和华的殿。所罗门王为耶和华所建的殿，长六十肘，宽二十肘，高三十肘。殿前的廊子长二十肘，与殿的宽窄一样，阔十肘；又为殿做了严紧的窗棂。靠着殿墙，围着外殿内殿，造了三层旁屋；下层宽五肘，中层宽六肘，上层宽七肘。殿外旁屋的梁木搁在殿墙坎上，免得插入殿墙。建殿是用山中凿成的石头。建殿的时候，锤子、斧子，和别样铁器的响声都没有听见。

祭司亚撒利雅率领耶和华勇敢的祭司八十人，跟随他进去。他们就阻挡乌西雅王，对他说：“乌西雅啊，给耶和华烧香不是你的事，乃是亚伦子孙承接圣职祭司的事。你出圣殿吧！因为你犯了罪。你行这事，耶和华神必不使你得荣耀。”乌西雅就发怒，手拿香炉要烧香。他向祭司发怒的时候，在耶和华殿中香坛旁众祭司面前，额上忽然发出大麻风。大祭司亚撒利雅和众祭司观看，见他额上发出大麻风，就催他出殿；他自己也急速出去，因为耶和华降灾与他。
