所罗门在耶路撒冷，在耶和华向他父亲大卫显现过的摩利亚山上，就是在耶布斯人阿珥楠的禾场上，大卫预备的地方，开工建造耶和华的殿。

殿前走廊长九公尺，与殿的宽度相等；高九公尺（“高九公尺”原文作“高一百二十”；现参照古译本修译）；里面贴上纯金。

以色列人出埃及地以后四百八十年，所罗门作以色列王的第四年西弗月，就是二月，他动工建造耶和华的殿。所罗门为耶和华所建的殿，长二十七公尺，宽九公尺，高十三公尺半。殿的前廊长九公尺，和殿的宽度一样，宽四公尺半。又为殿做了窗架子内宽外窄的窗户。紧靠殿墙，就是围着外殿和内殿的墙，他又建造平台，围绕殿的四周，做成厢房。厢房的下层宽两公尺两公寸；中层宽两公尺七公寸；第三层宽三公尺一公寸。他在殿墙外面四周留有暗架，所以梁木不必插入殿墙里。建殿是用采石场预备好了的石料；所以建殿的时候，在殿里听不到锤子、斧头或任何铁器的声音。

跟随乌西雅进去的，有亚撒利雅祭司，还有耶和华的祭司八十个，都是英勇的人。他们阻止乌西雅王，对他说：“乌西雅啊，给耶和华烧香不是你应作的事，而是亚伦的子孙作祭司的事，他们是分别为圣作烧香的事；请离开圣所吧，因为你作了不应该作的事了，你必不能从耶和华神那里得着尊荣。”于是乌西雅十分忿怒，手里拿着香炉正要烧香，他向众祭司发怒的时候，就在耶和华的殿里香坛旁边众祭司的面前，他的额上忽然长出了大痲风。大祭司亚撒利雅和众祭司看着他，忽然见他的额上长了大痲风，就急忙催他出殿；他自己也急忙出去，因为耶和华击打了他。
