亞述王普勒來攻打以色列地，米拿現給普勒三萬公斤銀子，請普勒幫助他堅固王位。

你要在光禿的山上豎起旗幟，向眾人揚聲揮手，叫他們進入權貴的門。我向我特選的軍兵下了命令；我也呼召了我的勇士，就是我那些驕傲自誇的人，去執行我在怒氣中所要作的。聽啊！山上有喧嘩的聲音，好像是眾多的人民；聽啊！有多國的人的嘈雜聲，好像是列國聚集在一起。萬軍之耶和華正在數點軍兵，預備打仗。他們從遠地而來，從天邊而來。就是耶和華和他惱怒的工具，要毀滅這全地。

耶和華又向以色列人發怒，就激動大衛，使他們受害，說：“你去數點一下以色列和猶大的人數吧！”

我祖先所消滅的民族，就是歌散人、哈蘭人、利色人和在提．拉撒的伊甸人，他們的神可曾解救他們嗎？

於是亞哈斯差派使者去見亞述王提革拉．毗列色，說：“我是你的臣僕，你的兒子，求你上來，救我脫離那起來攻擊我的亞蘭王和以色列王的手。”

亞述啊！我怒氣的棍子，有禍了。他們手中拿著我忿怒的杖。我要差派他去攻擊一個不敬虔的國，吩咐他去攻擊我惱怒的子民，擄去掠物，搶奪擄物，把他們踐踏，像街上的泥土一樣。

於是，猶大和便雅憫的族長、祭司、利未人和所有被神激動了心靈的人，都起來要上去，重建在耶路撒冷耶和華的殿。

因此耶和華領亞述王的將帥來攻打他們，用鈎子鈎著瑪拿西，用銅鍊鎖住他，把他帶到巴比倫去。
