但是連他們的士師、他們也不聽從，竟變節去服事而跪拜別的神；他們迅速地偏離了他們列祖聽從永恆主命令所走的道路，而不照樣地行。

永恆主開始同何西阿講話，對何西阿說：『你去，娶淫婦為妻，收取淫亂生的兒女；因為這地大行淫亂、離棄了永恆主。』

『但是你肥胖了，你粗壯了，你肚滿腸肥了！耶書崙肥胖了、就踢跳，背棄了造他的上帝，辱沒救他的磐石。他們用外族人的神激了上帝的妒憤，用可厭惡的事惹了他發怒。他們獻祭給鬼魔、並不是真神，乃是他們素不認識的神，是近來新興的，是你們列祖所不畏懼的。生你的磐石、你不記得，為你受產痛的上帝、你忘掉了。

以色列啊，不要歡喜！不要快樂像列族之民哦！因為你行了淫離棄你的上帝，在各穀場上如妓女喜愛淫資。

這是因為以色列人犯罪得罪了那領他們從埃及地上來、使他們脫離埃及王法老手下的、永恆主他們的上帝、去敬畏別的神，隨從永恆主從以色列人面前所驅逐的外國人的規例、和以色列諸王所立的條規。以色列人暗暗地行了不對的事、違背永恆主他們的上帝，在他們所有的城市、從瞭望人的譙樓、到有堡壘的城、他們都築了邱壇；又在各高岡上、各茂盛樹下、立了崇拜柱子和亞舍拉神木；就在那裏在邱壇上燻祭，正像永恆主從他們面前所擄走的外國人所行的一樣；他們又行壞事來惹永恆主發怒；並服事偶像、就是永恆主曾對他們說：『不可行這事』的。但是永恆主由眾神言人眾先見者經手、屢次警諭以色列人和猶大人說：『應當轉離你們罪的壞行徑，謹守我的誡命律例，照我一切的律法去行，就是我所吩咐你們列祖、並由我僕人神言人們經手傳給你們的。』他們卻不聽，竟硬着脖子，像他們那些不信服永恆主他們的上帝、的列祖硬着脖子一樣；他們棄絕了永恆主的律例和他跟他們列祖所立的約，又棄絕了他所警諭他們的話，去隨從虛無的神，而成為虛妄，又隨從他們四圍的外國人、就是永恆主曾吩咐不可照他們的樣子行的。他們撇棄了永恆主他們的上帝一切的誡命，竟為自己造了兩個牛犢的鑄像，又造了亞舍拉神木，去敬拜天上的萬象，又事奉巴力。他們將自己的兒女用火燒獻為祭，又占卜，又觀兆頭，又出賣自己、去行永恆主所看為壞的事，而惹他發怒。因此永恆主很惱怒以色列人，便將他們從自己面前除掉，只剩下猶大一個族派而已。
