And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.“ You parents— if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead?Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not!So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.

I love the Lord because he hears my voice and my prayer for mercy.Because he bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath!Death wrapped its ropes around me; the terrors of the grave overtook me. I saw only trouble and sorrow.Then I called on the name of the Lord:“ Please, Lord, save me!”

The blessing of the Lord makes a person rich, and he adds no sorrow with it.

I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me,

Ask me and I will tell you remarkable secrets you do not know about things to come.

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.

Yes, and the Lord will deliver me from every evil attack and will bring me safely into his heavenly Kingdom. All glory to God forever and ever! Amen.

Give me a helping hand, for I have chosen to follow your commandments.

But God did listen! He paid attention to my prayer.Praise God, who did not ignore my prayer or withdraw his unfailing love from me.

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ.

Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.

He asked you to preserve his life, and you granted his request. The days of his life stretch on forever.

“ When the poor and needy search for water and there is none, and their tongues are parched from thirst, then I, the Lord, will answer them. I, the God of Israel, will never abandon them.

Jew and Gentile are the same in this respect. They have the same Lord, who gives generously to all who call on him.For“ Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?

And there he built an altar and named it El Elohe Israel.

They are too strong for us.”Then Joshua said to the tribes of Ephraim and Manasseh, the descendants of Joseph,“ Since you are so large and strong, you will be given more than one portion.The forests of the hill country will be yours as well. Clear as much of the land as you wish, and take possession of its farthest corners. And you will drive out the Canaanites from the valleys, too, even though they are strong and have iron chariots.”

“ Now, O Lord my God, you have made me king instead of my father, David, but I am like a little child who doesn’t know his way around.And here I am in the midst of your own chosen people, a nation so great and numerous they cannot be counted!Give me an understanding heart so that I can govern your people well and know the difference between right and wrong. For who by himself is able to govern this great people of yours?”The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for wisdom.So God replied,“ Because you have asked for wisdom in governing my people with justice and have not asked for a long life or wealth or the death of your enemies—I will give you what you asked for! I will give you a wise and understanding heart such as no one else has had or ever will have!And I will also give you what you did not ask for— riches and fame! No other king in all the world will be compared to you for the rest of your life!

The tribe of Manasseh failed to drive out the people living in Beth shan, Taanach, Dor, Ibleam, Megiddo, and all their surrounding settlements, because the Canaanites were determined to stay in that region.When the Israelites grew stronger, they forced the Canaanites to work as slaves, but they never did drive them completely out of the land.The tribe of Ephraim failed to drive out the Canaanites living in Gezer, so the Canaanites continued to live there among them.The tribe of Zebulun failed to drive out the residents of Kitron and Nahalol, so the Canaanites continued to live among them. But the Canaanites were forced to work as slaves for the people of Zebulun.The tribe of Asher failed to drive out the residents of Acco, Sidon, Ahlab, Aczib, Helbah, Aphik, and Rehob.Instead, the people of Asher moved in among the Canaanites, who controlled the land, for they failed to drive them out.Likewise, the tribe of Naphtali failed to drive out the residents of Beth shemesh and Beth anath. Instead, they moved in among the Canaanites, who controlled the land. Nevertheless, the people of Beth shemesh and Beth anath were forced to work as slaves for the people of Naphtali.As for the tribe of Dan, the Amorites forced them back into the hill country and would not let them come down into the plains.The Amorites were determined to stay in Mount Heres, Aijalon, and Shaalbim, but when the descendants of Joseph became stronger, they forced the Amorites to work as slaves.The boundary of the Amorites ran from Scorpion Pass to Sela and continued upward from there.

Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you.

“ How I wish today that you of all people would understand the way to peace. But now it is too late, and peace is hidden from your eyes.

Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good.

So I decided that I would not bring you grief with another painful visit.For if I cause you grief, who will make me glad? Certainly not someone I have grieved.That is why I wrote to you as I did, so that when I do come, I won’t be grieved by the very ones who ought to give me the greatest joy. Surely you all know that my joy comes from your being joyful.I wrote that letter in great anguish, with a troubled heart and many tears. I didn’t want to grieve you, but I wanted to let you know how much love I have for you.I am not overstating it when I say that the man who caused all the trouble hurt all of you more than he hurt me.Most of you opposed him, and that was punishment enough.Now, however, it is time to forgive and comfort him. Otherwise he may be overcome by discouragement.
