For who knows what is good for man in life, in the few days of his futile life that he spends like a shadow? Who can tell man what will happen after him under the sun?

I am a stranger on earth; do not hide Your commands from me.

For all our days ebb away under Your wrath; we end our years like a sigh.

Dear friends, I urge you as strangers and temporary residents to abstain from fleshly desires that war against you.

A voice was saying,“ Cry out!” Another said,“ What should I cry out?”“ All humanity is grass, and all its goodness is like the flower of the field.The grass withers, the flowers fade when the breath of the Lord blows on them; indeed, the people are grass.The grass withers, the flowers fade, but the word of our God remains forever.”

These all died in faith without having received the promises, but they saw them from a distance, greeted them, and confessed that they were foreigners and temporary residents on the earth.Now those who say such things make it clear that they are seeking a homeland.If they were thinking about where they came from, they would have had an opportunity to return.But they now desire a better place— a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.

Man is like a breath; his days are like a passing shadow.

You don’t even know what tomorrow will bring— what your life will be! For you are like smoke that appears for a little while, then vanishes.
