May the Lord give you discretion and understanding when he puts you in command over Israel, so that you may keep the law of the Lord your God.

May the Lord give you good sense. May he give you understanding when he makes you king over Israel. Then you will keep the law of the Lord your God.

Only, may the Lord grant you discretion and understanding, that when he gives you charge over Israel you may keep the law of the Lord your God.

I will give you a wise and understanding heart such as no one else has had or ever will have!

Give me the wisdom and knowledge to lead them properly, for who could possibly govern this great people of yours?”

The prudent understand where they are going, but fools deceive themselves.

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.

For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest. He is a shield to those who walk with integrity.

Give your love of justice to the king, O God, and righteousness to the king’s son.

for I will give you the right words and such wisdom that none of your opponents will be able to reply or refute you!

And we can be sure that we know him if we obey his commandments.

Now King Solomon loved many foreign women. Besides Pharaoh’s daughter, he married women from Moab, Ammon, Edom, Sidon, and from among the Hittites.The Lord had clearly instructed the people of Israel,“ You must not marry them, because they will turn your hearts to their gods.” Yet Solomon insisted on loving them anyway.He had 700 wives of royal birth and 300 concubines. And in fact, they did turn his heart away from the Lord.In Solomon’s old age, they turned his heart to worship other gods instead of being completely faithful to the Lord his God, as his father, David, had been.Solomon worshiped Ashtoreth, the goddess of the Sidonians, and Molech, the detestable god of the Ammonites.In this way, Solomon did what was evil in the Lord’s sight; he refused to follow the Lord completely, as his father, David, had done.On the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem, he even built a pagan shrine for Chemosh, the detestable god of Moab, and another for Molech, the detestable god of the Ammonites.Solomon built such shrines for all his foreign wives to use for burning incense and sacrificing to their gods.The Lord was very angry with Solomon, for his heart had turned away from the Lord, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice.He had warned Solomon specifically about worshiping other gods, but Solomon did not listen to the Lord’s command.

Obey them completely, and you will display your wisdom and intelligence among the surrounding nations. When they hear all these decrees, they will exclaim,‘ How wise and prudent are the people of this great nation!’
