So David said to Joab and the commanders of the troops,“ Go and count the Israelites from Beersheba to Dan. Then report back to me so that I may know how many there are.”

So David said to Joab and the commanders of the troops,“ Go! Count the men of Israel from Beersheba all the way to Dan. Report back to me. Then I’ll know how many there are.”

So David said to Joab and the commanders of the army,“ Go, number Israel, from Beersheba to Dan, and bring me a report, that I may know their number.”

So David said to Joab and the commanders of the army,“ Take a census of all the people of Israel— from Beersheba in the south to Dan in the north— and bring me a report so I may know how many there are.”

大衛沒有統計二十歲以下的以色列人，因為耶和華曾經應許要使以色列的人數像天上的星那樣多。洗魯雅的兒子約押開始統計人數，但沒有完成，因為耶和華因此事而向以色列人發烈怒，因此統計的數目沒有收錄在大衛王記上。

於是，那天早晨，耶和華在以色列降下瘟疫，瘟疫持續了三天，從但到別示巴共有七萬人死亡。

驕傲的人必遭貶抑，謙卑的人必得尊榮。

從但到別示巴，全以色列的人都知道撒母耳被立為耶和華的先知。

牛羊眾多、金銀日增的時候，切勿心驕氣傲，忘記你們的上帝耶和華。祂把你們從受奴役之地——埃及救出來，帶領你們走過乾旱、可怕、毒蛇和蠍子出沒的大曠野。祂使堅硬的磐石流出水來給你們喝，在曠野中把你們祖先從未見過的嗎哪賜給你們吃，為要磨煉你們、考驗你們，使你們最終得到益處。你們切勿以為是憑自己的雙手和能力致富的。

於是，從但到別示巴以及基列的全體以色列人萬眾一心，來到米斯巴，聚集在耶和華面前。

於是，他們下令通告全以色列，從別示巴直到但，讓人們到耶路撒冷向以色列的上帝耶和華守逾越節，因為人們不常照律例守這節期。

因此，我認為你應該把從但到別示巴的那多如海沙的以色列人都聚集起來，然後你親自率領他們出征。

大衛對統領軍隊的約押說：「你去走遍以色列各支派，從但到別示巴，統計以色列和猶大的人口，讓我知道國民的數目。」約押說：「我主我王，願你的上帝耶和華使國民增加百倍，讓你親眼看到。但我主我王為什麼要統計人口呢？」但大衛不聽約押和其他將領的規勸。他們只好去統計以色列的人數。

所羅門在世的時候，從但到別示巴的猶大人和以色列人都在自己的葡萄樹和無花果樹下安居。

為了使我不至於因所受的啟示太大而自高，有一根「刺」在我身上，就是有撒旦的爪牙攻擊我，免得我驕傲自大。

希西迦卻沒有為他所蒙的恩典而感謝上帝，因為他心中驕傲。因此，上帝的烈怒臨到他、猶大和耶路撒冷。後來希西迦和耶路撒冷的居民發覺自己心裡驕傲，就謙卑下來。因此，在希西迦有生之年，耶和華的烈怒沒有臨到他們。
