So David said to Joab and the commanders of the troops,“ Go and count the Israelites from Beersheba to Dan. Then report back to me so that I may know how many there are.”

So David said to Joab and the commanders of the army,“ Go, number Israel, from Beersheba to Dan, and bring me a report, that I may know their number.”

大卫没有统计二十岁以下的以色列人，因为耶和华曾经应许要使以色列的人数像天上的星那样多。洗鲁雅的儿子约押开始统计人数，但没有完成，因为耶和华因此事而向以色列人发烈怒，因此统计的数目没有收录在大卫王记上。

于是，那天早晨，耶和华在以色列降下瘟疫，瘟疫持续了三天，从但到别示巴共有七万人死亡。

骄傲的人必遭贬抑，谦卑的人必得尊荣。

从但到别示巴，全以色列的人都知道撒母耳被立为耶和华的先知。

牛羊众多、金银日增的时候，切勿心骄气傲，忘记你们的上帝耶和华。祂把你们从受奴役之地——埃及救出来，带领你们走过干旱、可怕、毒蛇和蝎子出没的大旷野。祂使坚硬的磐石流出水来给你们喝，在旷野中把你们祖先从未见过的吗哪赐给你们吃，为要磨炼你们、考验你们，使你们最终得到益处。你们切勿以为是凭自己的双手和能力致富的。

于是，从但到别示巴以及基列的全体以色列人万众一心，来到米斯巴，聚集在耶和华面前。

于是，他们下令通告全以色列，从别示巴直到但，让人们到耶路撒冷向以色列的上帝耶和华守逾越节，因为人们不常照律例守这节期。

因此，我认为你应该把从但到别示巴的那多如海沙的以色列人都聚集起来，然后你亲自率领他们出征。

大卫对统领军队的约押说：“你去走遍以色列各支派，从但到别示巴，统计以色列和犹大的人口，让我知道国民的数目。”约押说：“我主我王，愿你的上帝耶和华使国民增加百倍，让你亲眼看到。但我主我王为什么要统计人口呢？”但大卫不听约押和其他将领的规劝。他们只好去统计以色列的人数。

所罗门在世的时候，从但到别示巴的犹大人和以色列人都在自己的葡萄树和无花果树下安居。

为了使我不至于因所受的启示太大而自高，有一根“刺”在我身上，就是有撒旦的爪牙攻击我，免得我骄傲自大。

希西迦却没有为他所蒙的恩典而感谢上帝，因为他心中骄傲。因此，上帝的烈怒临到他、犹大和耶路撒冷。后来希西迦和耶路撒冷的居民发觉自己心里骄傲，就谦卑下来。因此，在希西迦有生之年，耶和华的烈怒没有临到他们。
