So David said to Joab and the commanders of the troops,“ Go and count the Israelites from Beersheba to Dan. Then report back to me so that I may know how many there are.”

But David took not the number of them from twenty years old and under, because Jehovah had said he would increase Israel like to the stars of heaven.Joab the son of Zeruiah began to number, but finished not; and there came wrath for this upon Israel; neither was the number put into the account in the chronicles of king David.

So Jehovah sent a pestilence upon Israel from the morning even to the time appointed; and there died of the people from Dan even to Beer- sheba seventy thousand men.

A man’s pride shall bring him low; But he that is of a lowly spirit shall obtain honor.

And all Israel from Dan even to Beer- sheba knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of Jehovah.

and when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied, and all that thou hast is multiplied;then thy heart be lifted up, and thou forget Jehovah thy God, who brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage;who led thee through the great and terrible wilderness, wherein were fiery serpents and scorpions, and thirsty ground where was no water; who brought thee forth water out of the rock of flint;who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, which thy fathers knew not; that he might humble thee, and that he might prove thee, to do thee good at thy latter end:and lest thou say in thy heart, My power and the might of my hand hath gotten me this wealth.

Then all the children of Israel went out, and the congregation was assembled as one man, from Dan even to Beer- sheba, with the land of Gilead, unto Jehovah at Mizpah.

So they established a decree to make proclamation throughout all Israel, from Beer- sheba even to Dan, that they should come to keep the passover unto Jehovah, the God of Israel, at Jerusalem: for they had not kept it in great numbers in such sort as it is written.

But I counsel that all Israel be gathered together unto thee, from Dan even to Beer- sheba, as the sand that is by the sea for multitude; and that thou go to battle in thine own person.

And the king said to Joab the captain of the host, who was with him, Go now to and fro through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even to Beer- sheba, and number ye the people, that I may know the sum of the people.And Joab said unto the king, Now Jehovah thy God add unto the people, how many soever they may be, a hundredfold; and may the eyes of my lord the king see it: but why doth my lord the king delight in this thing?Notwithstanding, the king’s word prevailed against Joab, and against the captains of the host. And Joab and the captains of the host went out from the presence of the king, to number the people of Israel.

And Judah and Israel dwelt safely, every man under his vine and under his fig- tree, from Dan even to Beer- sheba, all the days of Solomon.

And by reason of the exceeding greatness of the revelations, that I should not be exalted overmuch, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, that I should not be exalted overmuch.

to transfer the kingdom from the house of Saul, and to set up the throne of David over Israel and over Judah, from Dan even to Beer- sheba.

But Hezekiah rendered not again according to the benefit done unto him; for his heart was lifted up: therefore there was wrath upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem.Notwithstanding Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of Jehovah came not upon them in the days of Hezekiah.
