亚哈听见这些话，就撕裂衣服，禁食，贴身穿着麻布，也睡在麻布上，沮丧地走来走去。

摩西和亚伦在以色列全会众面前脸伏于地。

至于我，他们有病的时候，我穿麻衣，禁食，刻苦己心；我所求的都归到自己身上。我如此行，好像他是我的朋友，我的兄弟；我屈身悲哀，如同哀悼自己的母亲。

约书亚靠近耶利哥的时候，举目观看，看哪，有一个人站在他对面，手里拿着拔出来的刀。约书亚到他那里，对他说：“你是属我们的，还是属我们敌人的呢？”他说：“不，我现在来是要作耶和华军队的元帅。”约书亚就脸伏于地下拜，说：“我主有什么话，请吩咐仆人吧！”

这消息传到尼尼微王那里，他就从宝座起来，脱下朝服，披上麻布，坐在灰中。他叫人通告尼尼微全城，说：“王和大臣有令，人、畜、牛、羊都不可尝任何东西，不可吃，也不可喝水。人与牲畜都要披上麻布，切切求告上帝。各人要回转离开恶道，离弃自己掌中的残暴。

耶和华上帝把那人赶出去，就在伊甸园东边安设基路伯和发出火焰转动的剑，把守生命树的道路。

耶和华使巴兰的眼目明亮，他看见耶和华的使者站在路中间，手里有拔出来的刀；巴兰就低头俯伏下拜。
