亚哈听见这些话，就撕裂自己的衣服，披上麻布，禁食，睡在麻布上，并且神色颓丧地行走。

摩西和亚伦就俯伏在以色列全体会众面前。

摩西和亚伦就俯伏在地，说：“神啊，万人之灵的神啊，一人犯罪，你就要向全体会众发怒吗？”

希西家王听见了，就把自己的衣服撕裂，披上麻布，来到耶和华的殿。

以利沙祷告，说：“耶和华啊！请你打开他的眼睛，使他能看见。”于是耶和华打开了仆人的眼睛，他就看见；看哪！那山上布满了火马火车，围绕着以利沙。

至于我，他们有病的时候，我就穿上麻衣，禁食刻苦己心；我心里也不住地祷告（“我心里也不住地祷告”原文作“我的祷告都回到自己的怀中”）。我往来奔走，看他们像自己的朋友兄弟；我哀痛屈身，如同哀悼母亲。

约书亚走近耶利哥的时候，抬头观看，看见一个人站在他对面，手里拿着拔出来的刀。约书亚走到他那里，对他说：“你是我们的人，还是我们的仇敌呢？”那人回答：“不是的；我现在来是作耶和华军队的元帅。”约书亚就脸伏在地，向他下拜，对他说：“我主有什么事要吩咐仆人呢？”

这事传到尼尼微王那里，他就起来，离开宝座，脱去王袍，披上麻衣，坐在炉灰中。他又传谕全尼尼微，说：“王和大臣有令：‘人、畜、牛、羊，都不准尝什么，不准吃，也不准喝。不论人畜，都要披上麻衣；各人要恳切呼求神，悔改，离开恶行，摒弃手中的强暴。

于是把亚当驱逐出去，又派基路伯在伊甸园的东边，拿着旋转发火焰的剑，把守到生命树去的路。

那时，耶和华开了巴兰的眼睛，他就看见耶和华的使者站在路上，手里拿着拔出来的刀，巴兰就低头俯伏在地。
