亚哈听了以利亚的话，就撕裂衣服，披麻禁食，睡觉也不脱下麻衣，垂头丧气地走来走去。

摩西和亚伦俯伏在以色列全体会众面前。

摩西和亚伦就伏在地上说：“上帝啊，赐人生命的上帝啊！一人犯罪，你就要向全体会众发怒吗？”

这时，在以色列人前面领路的上帝的天使，转到百姓后面，云柱也随着移到后面立住。云柱停在埃及军队和以色列人的中间，埃及军队这边一片黑暗，以色列人那边却有光，双方整夜都无法接近对方。

希西迦王听了就撕裂衣服，披上麻衣，进入耶和华的殿。

他随后祷告：“耶和华啊，求你开他的眼睛，让他看见。”于是，耶和华开那个仆人的眼睛，他就看见山上到处都是火车火马围绕着以利沙。

他们生病时，我披上麻衣，谦卑地为他们禁食祷告，但上帝没有垂听。我为他们哀伤，视他们为朋友、弟兄；我低头为他们哭泣，如同哀悼自己的母亲。

约书亚走近耶利哥，举目看见一个人手里拿着拔出来的剑站在他面前。约书亚上前去问道：“你是来帮助我们的，还是来帮助我们敌人的？”那人答道：“都不是，我来是做耶和华军队的统帅。”约书亚就俯伏下拜说：“我主，有什么话要吩咐仆人？”

尼尼微王听到这消息后，便走下宝座，脱下王袍，披上麻衣，坐在炉灰中。王又向全城颁布命令，说：“王和大臣有令，所有的人都必须禁食，牛羊牲畜都不许吃草也不许喝水。人和牲畜都必须披上麻衣，众人要向上帝恳切呼求，改邪归正，停止作恶。

上帝赶走了亚当以后，就派遣基路伯天使驻守在伊甸园东边，又用一把旋转的火剑守护在通往生命树的路上。

那时，耶和华开了巴兰的眼，他才看见耶和华的天使持刀拦在路上，便俯伏在地。
