You can have three years when there will not be enough food in the land. You can have three months when your enemies will sweep you away. They will catch up with you. They will destroy you with their swords. Or you can have three days when the sword of the Lord will punish you. That means there would be three days of plague in the land. My angel would strike down people in every part of Israel.’ So take your pick. Tell me how to answer the one who sent me.”

During David’s reign there was a famine for three successive years, so David inquired of the Lord. The Lord answered,“ It is because of the blood shed by Saul and his family when he killed the Gibeonites.”

Those slain by the sword are better off than those slain by hunger, who waste away, pierced with pain because the fields lack produce.

“ But if you do not obey the Lord your God by carefully following all His commands and statutes I am giving you today, all these curses will come and overtake you:

When the Lord passes through to strike Egypt and sees the blood on the lintel and the two doorposts, He will pass over the door and not let the destroyer enter your houses to strike you.

The Lord will afflict you with wasting disease, fever, inflammation, burning heat, drought, blight, and mildew; these will pursue you until you perish.

That night the angel of the Lord went out and struck down 185,000 in the camp of the Assyrians. When the people got up the next morning— there were all the dead bodies!

Elisha said to the woman whose son he had restored to life,“ Get ready, you and your household, and go and live as a foreigner wherever you can. For the Lord has announced a seven-year famine, and it has already come to the land.”

But I say to you, there were certainly many widows in Israel in Elijah’s days, when the sky was shut up for three years and six months while a great famine came over all the land.

Then God sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it, but when the angel was about to destroy the city, the Lord looked, relented concerning the destruction, and said to the angel who was destroying the people,“ Enough, withdraw your hand now!” The angel of the Lord was then standing at the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.When David looked up and saw the angel of the Lord standing between earth and heaven, with his drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem, David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell down with their faces to the ground.

So Gad went to David, told him the choices, and asked him,“ Do you want three years of famine to come on your land, to flee from your foes three months while they pursue you, or to have a plague in your land three days? Now, think it over and decide what answer I should take back to the One who sent me.”David answered Gad,“ I have great anxiety. Please, let us fall into the Lord’s hands because His mercies are great, but don’t let me fall into human hands.”

The Lord will cause you to be defeated before your enemies. You will march out against them from one direction but flee from them in seven directions. You will be an object of horror to all the kingdoms of the earth.

At once an angel of the Lord struck him because he did not give the glory to God, and he became infected with worms and died.

Oh, sword of the Lord! How long will you be restless? Go back to your sheath; be still; be silent!

They will eat the offspring of your livestock and your land’s produce until you are destroyed. They will leave you no grain, new wine, oil, young of your herds, or newborn of your flocks until they cause you to perish.They will besiege you within all your gates until your high and fortified walls, that you trust in, come down throughout your land. They will besiege you within all your gates throughout the land the Lord your God has given you.

After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, restraining the four winds of the earth so that no wind could blow on the earth or on the sea or on any tree.Then I saw another angel, who had the seal of the living God rise up from the east. He cried out in a loud voice to the four angels who were empowered to harm the earth and the sea:“ Don’t harm the earth or the sea or the trees until we seal the slaves of our God on their foreheads.”

then the sword you fear will overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine you are worried about will follow on your heels there to Egypt, and you will die there.

“ I will put anxiety in the hearts of those of you who survive in the lands of their enemies. The sound of a wind-driven leaf will put them to flight, and they will flee as one flees from a sword, and fall though no one is pursuing them.They will stumble over one another as if fleeing from a sword though no one is pursuing them. You will not be able to stand against your enemies.

Now Elijah the Tishbite, from the Gilead settlers, said to Ahab,“ As the Lord God of Israel lives, I stand before Him, and there will be no dew or rain during these years except by my command!”

I will turn against you, so that you will be defeated by your enemies. Those who hate you will rule over you, and you will flee even though no one is pursuing you.

The Lord will afflict you with painful and incurable boils on your knees and thighs— from the sole of your foot to the top of your head.

“ Or if I send a plague into that land and pour out My wrath on it with bloodshed to wipe out both man and animal from it,even if Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it, as I live”— the declaration of the Lord God—“ they could not deliver their son or daughter. They would deliver only themselves by their righteousness.“ For this is what the Lord God says: How much worse will it be when I send My four devastating judgments against Jerusalem— sword, famine, dangerous animals, and plague— in order to wipe out both man and animal from it!

Over all the barren heights in the wilderness the destroyers have come, for the Lord has a sword that devours from one end of the earth to the other. No one has peace.

For the Lord will execute judgment on all flesh with His fiery sword, and many will be slain by the Lord.

“ The Lord will afflict you with the boils of Egypt, tumors, a festering rash, and scabies, from which you cannot be cured.

the plague that stalks in darkness, or the pestilence that ravages at noon.

You will eat the old grain of the previous year and will clear out the old to make room for the new.

So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will go out, separate the evil people from the righteous,and throw them into the blazing furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
