He told us,‘ You and your children must never drink wine.Do not build houses. Do not plant crops. Do not plant a vineyard or own one. Live in tents all your lives. If you do these things you will live a long time in the land that you wander about on.’We and our wives and our sons and daughters have obeyed everything our ancestor Jonadab commanded us. We have never drunk wine.

Jabez was more respected than his brothers. His mother had named him Jabez, for she said,“ I experienced pain when I gave birth to him.”Jabez called out to the God of Israel,“ If only you would greatly bless me and expand my territory! May your hand be with me! Keep me from harm so I might not endure pain!” God answered his prayer.

How can you say,“ We are wise! We have the law of the LORD”? The truth is, those who teach it have used their writings to make it say what it does not really mean.

This Ezra is the one who came up from Babylon. He was a scribe who was skilled in the law of Moses which the LORD God of Israel had given. The king supplied him with everything he requested, for the hand of the LORD his God was on him.
