於是以色列王召集了四百位先知，問他們：“我們可以到基列的拉末去作戰嗎？還是不要去呢？”他們回答：“你可以上去，神必把那城交在王的手裡。”

又用了三千四百公斤銀子，從以色列中雇了十萬英勇的戰士。

聽從你們的，就是聽從我；棄絕你們的，就是棄絕我；棄絕我的，就是棄絕那差我來的。”

他使戰爭止息，直到地極；他把弓折毀，把矛砍斷，把戰車用火焚燒。

以色列眾人聽說掃羅攻打了非利士人的駐軍，又聽說非利士人憎恨以色列人，就應召在吉甲跟隨掃羅。

神又興起一個人敵擋所羅門，就是以利亞大的兒子利遜。他是從他主人瑣巴王哈大底謝那裡逃出來的。大衛擊殺瑣巴人的時候，利遜招聚了一些人，自己作了這些土匪的領袖。他前往大馬士革，住在那裡，又在大馬士革作王。

以色列王亞哈問猶大王約沙法：“你願意和我一同到基列的拉末去嗎？”他回答：“你我不分彼此；我的人民就是你的人民；我必和你一同作戰。”

那時，以色列王和猶大王約沙法各自坐在王位上，穿著朝服，坐在撒瑪利亞城門口的廣場上；所有的先知都在他們面前說預言。

就對他們說：“願耶和華鑒察你們，審判你們，因為你們使我們的香氣在法老眼前和他的臣僕眼前都發臭了，把刀放在他們的手裡來殺我們。”

所以那棄絕這命令的，不是棄絕人，而是棄絕把他自己的聖靈賜給你們的那位神。

於是亞撒從耶和華的殿和王宮的庫房裡取出金銀來，送給住在大馬士革的亞蘭王便．哈達，說：“你父親和我父親曾經立約，你和我也要立約。現在我把金銀送給你，請你去廢除你和以色列王巴沙訂立的約，好使他離開我而去。”

人人都偏離了正道，一同變成污穢；沒有行善的，連一個也沒有。

亞吉相信了大衛，心裡說：“他在自己的族人以色列中留下了臭名，他必永遠作我的僕人了。”

約坦和亞捫人的王交戰，戰勝了他們；那一年，亞捫人就獻給他三千四百公斤銀子，一千公噸小麥，一千公噸大麥；第二年和第三年，亞捫人也獻給他這個數目。

掃羅取得了以色列的王國以後，常常攻打四圍的一切仇敵，就是摩押人、亞捫人、以東人、瑣巴眾王和非利士人，他無論往哪裡去，都得到勝利（按照《馬索拉文本》，“得到勝利”作“懲罰”或“行邪惡”；現參照《七十士譯本》翻譯）。

瑣巴王利合的兒子哈大底謝，往幼發拉底河去要奪回他統治這河的勢力的時候，大衛就攻打他。
