When someone came and told David about the men, he sent messengers to meet them, for they were greatly humiliated. The king said,“ Stay at Jericho till your beards have grown, and then come back.”

Someone came and told David what had happened to his men. So David sent messengers to them because they were filled with shame. King David said to them,“ Stay at Jericho until your beards grow out again. Then come back here.”

and they departed. When David was told concerning the men, he sent messengers to meet them, for the men were greatly ashamed. And the king said,“ Remain at Jericho until your beards have grown and then return.”

When David heard what had happened to the men, he sent messengers to tell them,“ Stay at Jericho until your beards grow out, and then come back.” For they felt deep shame because of their appearance.

Then there went[ certain], and told David how the men were served. And he sent to meet them: for the men were greatly ashamed. And the king said, Tarry at Jericho until your beards be grown, and[ then] return.

Messengers came and told David what had happened to the men, so he summoned them, for the men were thoroughly humiliated. The king said,“ Stay in Jericho until your beards grow again; then you may come back.”

Then some people went and told David how the men were treated. He sent to meet them; for the men were greatly humiliated. The king said,“ Stay at Jericho until your beards have grown, and then return.”

Then they burned the whole city and everything in it, but they put the silver and gold and the articles of bronze and iron into the treasury of the Lord’s house.But Joshua spared Rahab the prostitute, with her family and all who belonged to her, because she hid the men Joshua had sent as spies to Jericho— and she lives among the Israelites to this day.At that time Joshua pronounced this solemn oath:“ Cursed before the Lord is the one who undertakes to rebuild this city, Jericho:“ At the cost of his firstborn son he will lay its foundations; at the cost of his youngest he will set up its gates.”

But the hair on his head began to grow again after it had been shaved.

In Ahab’s time, Hiel of Bethel rebuilt Jericho. He laid its foundations at the cost of his firstborn son Abiram, and he set up its gates at the cost of his youngest son Segub, in accordance with the word of the Lord spoken by Joshua son of Nun.

When the other servants saw what had happened, they were outraged and went and told their master everything that had happened.
