決定人尊貴的是上帝：祂擢升這個，貶抑那個。

強大的君王曾經統管耶路撒冷和幼發拉底河西全境，並向人們徵收貢物和賦稅。

你必賜我更大的尊榮，你必再次安慰我。

掃羅知道耶和華與大衛同在，自己的女兒米甲也愛他，

祂從灰塵中提拔貧窮人，從糞堆中擢升困苦人，使他們與王子同坐，與本國的王子同坐。

耶和華與大衛同在，因此他事事成功。

拿單對大衛說：「你有什麼想法，就去做吧！因為上帝與你同在。」

又從哈大底謝統治的比他和比羅他兩座城中奪走大量的銅。

無論你去哪裡，我都與你同在，為你剷除所有仇敵。現在我要使你聲名遠播，與世上的偉人齊名。

耶和華啊，你是我的力量，我愛你。

還派軍駐守亞蘭國的大馬士革，亞蘭人臣服大衛，向他進貢。耶和華使大衛無往而不勝。

我與你同在，無論你去哪裡，我都會保護你，領你返回這片土地。我必實現對你的應許，決不離棄你。」

非利士人與以色列人交戰，以色列人敗逃，許多人在基利波山被殺。非利士人窮追掃羅及其眾子，殺了掃羅的兒子約拿單、亞比拿達和麥基舒亞。掃羅周圍戰事激烈，他被弓箭手發現、射成重傷，就對為他拿兵器的人說：「拔出你的刀來刺死我吧，免得那些未受割禮的人來刺殺和凌辱我。」但拿兵器的人非常害怕，不敢動手，掃羅就自己伏刀自盡了。侍從看見掃羅已死，也伏刀自盡了。這樣，掃羅和他三個兒子，以及為他拿兵器的人和他的軍隊都死了。

上帝啊，不止如此，你還應許將來要恩待僕人的後裔。耶和華上帝啊，你視我為尊貴的人。

大衛在鹽谷殺了一萬八千亞蘭人，聲威大振。他又在以東全境設駐軍，以東人都臣服於他。耶和華使他無往而不勝。

耶和華從掃羅和所有仇敵手中拯救大衛那天，他向耶和華吟唱此詩：

萬軍之耶和華與我們同在，雅各的上帝是我們的堡壘。

我追趕仇敵，擊潰他們，不消滅他們決不回頭。我打垮他們，使他們倒在我的腳下，再也站不起來。你賜我征戰的能力，使我的仇敵降服在我腳下。你使我的仇敵狼狽而逃，我殲滅了恨我的人。

萬軍之耶和華與我們同在，雅各的上帝是我們的堡壘。（細拉）

我憑永活的耶和華起誓，耶和華必親手擊殺他。他要麼壽終而死，要麼命喪沙場。

祂使當權者失勢，叫謙卑的人升高。
