决定人尊贵的是上帝：祂擢升这个，贬抑那个。

强大的君王曾经统管耶路撒冷和幼发拉底河西全境，并向人们征收贡物和赋税。

你必赐我更大的尊荣，你必再次安慰我。

扫罗知道耶和华与大卫同在，自己的女儿米甲也爱他，

祂从灰尘中提拔贫穷人，从粪堆中擢升困苦人，使他们与王子同坐，与本国的王子同坐。

耶和华与大卫同在，因此他事事成功。

拿单对大卫说：“你有什么想法，就去做吧！因为上帝与你同在。”

又从哈大底谢统治的比他和比罗他两座城中夺走大量的铜。

耶和华啊，你是我的力量，我爱你。

还派军驻守亚兰国的大马士革，亚兰人臣服大卫，向他进贡。耶和华使大卫无往而不胜。

我与你同在，无论你去哪里，我都会保护你，领你返回这片土地。我必实现对你的应许，决不离弃你。”

非利士人与以色列人交战，以色列人败逃，许多人在基利波山被杀。非利士人穷追扫罗及其众子，杀了扫罗的儿子约拿单、亚比拿达和麦基舒亚。扫罗周围战事激烈，他被弓箭手发现、射成重伤，就对为他拿兵器的人说：“拔出你的刀来刺死我吧，免得那些未受割礼的人来刺杀和凌辱我。”但拿兵器的人非常害怕，不敢动手，扫罗就自己伏刀自尽了。侍从看见扫罗已死，也伏刀自尽了。这样，扫罗和他三个儿子，以及为他拿兵器的人和他的军队都死了。

上帝啊，不止如此，你还应许将来要恩待仆人的后裔。耶和华上帝啊，你视我为尊贵的人。

大卫在盐谷杀了一万八千亚兰人，声威大振。他又在以东全境设驻军，以东人都臣服于他。耶和华使他无往而不胜。

耶和华从扫罗和所有仇敌手中拯救大卫那天，他向耶和华吟唱此诗：

万军之耶和华与我们同在，雅各的上帝是我们的堡垒。

我追赶仇敌，击溃他们，不消灭他们决不回头。我打垮他们，使他们倒在我的脚下，再也站不起来。你赐我征战的能力，使我的仇敌降服在我脚下。你使我的仇敌狼狈而逃，我歼灭了恨我的人。

万军之耶和华与我们同在，雅各的上帝是我们的堡垒。（细拉）

我凭永活的耶和华起誓，耶和华必亲手击杀他。他要么寿终而死，要么命丧沙场。

祂使当权者失势，叫谦卑的人升高。
