The LORD will not abandon his people because he wants to uphold his great reputation. The LORD was pleased to make you his own people.

“ Indeed, a time is coming,” says the LORD,“ when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and Judah.It will not be like the old covenant that I made with their ancestors when I delivered them from Egypt. For they violated that covenant, even though I was like a faithful husband to them,” says the LORD.“ But I will make a new covenant with the whole nation of Israel after I plant them back in the land,” says the LORD.“ I will put my law within them and write it on their hearts and minds. I will be their God and they will be my people.“ People will no longer need to teach their neighbors and relatives to know me. For all of them, from the least important to the most important, will know me,” says the LORD.“ For I will forgive their sin and will no longer call to mind the wrong they have done.”

So I ask, God has not rejected his people, has he? Absolutely not! For I too am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, from the tribe of Benjamin.God has not rejected his people whom he foreknew! Do you not know what the scripture says about Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel?“ Lord, they have killed your prophets, they have demolished your altars; I alone am left and they are seeking my life!”But what was the divine response to him?“ I have kept for myself seven thousand people who have not bent the knee to Baal.”So in the same way at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace.And if it is by grace, it is no longer by works, otherwise grace would no longer be grace.What then? Israel failed to obtain what it was diligently seeking, but the elect obtained it. The rest were hardened,as it is written,“ God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that would not see and ears that would not hear, to this very day.”And David says,“ Let their table become a snare and trap, a stumbling block and a retribution for them;let their eyes be darkened so that they may not see, and make their backs bend continually.”I ask then, they did not stumble into an irrevocable fall, did they? Absolutely not! But by their transgression salvation has come to the Gentiles, to make Israel jealous.Now if their transgression means riches for the world and their defeat means riches for the Gentiles, how much more will their full restoration bring?

As he also says in Hosea:“ I will call those who were not my people,‘ My people,’ and I will call her who was unloved,‘ My beloved.’”“ And in the very place where it was said to them,‘ You are not my people,’ there they will be called‘ sons of the living God.’”

Then I will bring the remaining third into the fire; I will refine them like silver is refined and will test them like gold is tested. They will call on my name and I will answer; I will say,‘ These are my people,’ and they will say,‘ The LORD is my God.’”

I will confirm my covenant as a perpetual covenant between me and you. It will extend to your descendants after you throughout their generations. I will be your God and the God of your descendants after you.

And today the LORD has declared you to be his special people( as he already promised you) so you may keep all his commandments.Then he will elevate you above all the nations he has made and you will receive praise, fame, and honor. You will be a people holy to the LORD your God, as he has said.

For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. He has chosen you to be his people, prized above all others on the face of the earth.It is not because you were more numerous than all the other peoples that the LORD favored and chose you– for in fact you were the least numerous of all peoples.Rather it is because of his love for you and his faithfulness to the promise he solemnly vowed to your ancestors that the LORD brought you out with great power, redeeming you from the place of slavery, from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

To them belong the adoption as sons, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the temple worship, and the promises.To them belong the patriarchs, and from them, by human descent, came the Christ, who is God over all, blessed forever!
