耶和華向他們發怒，使他們遭到掠奪者的攻擊和四周仇敵的壓制，毫無抵抗之力。他們每次出戰，耶和華都與他們為敵，使他們戰敗，正如祂的誓言。他們苦不堪言。後來，耶和華使士師興起，從掠奪者手中拯救他們。但他們不聽從士師的話，與其他神明苟合，祭拜它們，很快偏離他們祖先的道路，沒有效法他們的祖先順從耶和華的命令。耶和華見他們因敵人的壓迫和苦待而哀號，就憐憫他們，使士師陸續興起，並與每位士師同在。士師在世之日，耶和華從仇敵手中拯救他們。

我要當著他的面擊垮他的敵人，打倒恨他的人。

那時，以色列全境找不到一個鐵匠，這是因為非利士人的禁令，以免希伯來人製造刀槍。以色列人都要到非利士的鐵匠那裡去磨鋤、犁、斧和鏟。

非利士人調兵遣將，要攻打以色列。他們有三萬輛戰車和六千騎兵，步兵多如海邊的沙。大軍來到伯·亞文以東的密抹，駐紮在那裡。以色列人看見敵軍壓境，情勢危急，紛紛躲進山洞、叢林、石穴、地洞和坑裡。

因為基督必執掌王權，直到上帝將所有的仇敵都放在祂腳下。

耶和華對我主說：「你坐在我的右邊，等我使你的仇敵成為你的腳凳。」

耶和華啊，你的手必尋索你的敵人，你用右手搜出所有恨你的人。你一出現，他們便像身在火爐中，你在烈怒中吞滅他們，你的烈火燒滅他們。

若不是耶和華建造房屋，建造者的工作都是徒勞。若不是耶和華保護城池，守城者保持警覺也是徒然。

你使我的仇敵狼狽而逃，我殲滅了恨我的人。他們高聲求救，卻無人搭救；他們呼求耶和華，祂也不應允。我把他們打得粉碎，如同風中的灰塵；我把他們倒掉，如同街上的泥土。你救我脫離我百姓的攻擊，立我做列國的元首。素不認識的民族也歸順我。他們望風而降，外族人對我俯首稱臣。外族人聞風喪膽，戰戰兢兢地走出他們的城池。耶和華永遠活著，保護我的磐石當受頌讚，拯救我的上帝當受尊崇。祂是為我伸冤的上帝，祂使列邦臣服於我。祂救我脫離仇敵，使我勝過強敵，拯救我脫離殘暴之徒。因此，耶和華啊，我要在列邦中讚美你，歌頌你的名。你使你立的王大獲全勝，向你膏立的大衛及其後代廣施慈愛，直到永遠。

每當他們撒種的時候，米甸人、亞瑪力人及東方人就前來進犯，在他們境內安營，摧毀他們遠至迦薩一帶的莊稼，不給他們留下任何糧食，也不留下一隻羊、一頭牛或驢。入侵者帶著牲畜和帳篷像蝗蟲一樣湧來，人和駱駝不計其數，摧毀了整個地區。以色列人因米甸人的入侵而極其貧乏，就呼求耶和華。

耶和華向他們發怒，把他們交在美索不達米亞王古珊·利薩田的手中，受古珊·利薩田統治八年。

耶賓王擁有九百輛鐵戰車，他殘暴地壓迫以色列人二十年。以色列人向耶和華呼求。
