And it came about, when David lived in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet,“ Look, I am living in a house of cedar, but the ark of the covenant of the Lord is under tent curtains.”

After David was settled in his palace, he said to Nathan the prophet,“ Here I am, living in a house of cedar, while the ark of the covenant of the Lord is under a tent.”

David moved into his palace. Then he spoke to Nathan the prophet. He said,“ Here I am, living in a house that has beautiful cedar walls. But the ark of the covenant of the Lord is under a tent.”

Now when David lived in his house, David said to Nathan the prophet,“ Behold, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of the covenant of the Lord is under a tent.”

When David was settled in his palace, he summoned Nathan the prophet.“ Look,” David said,“ I am living in a beautiful cedar palace, but the Ark of the Lord’s Covenant is out there under a tent!”

When David had settled into his palace, he said to the prophet Nathan,“ Look! I am living in a cedar house while the ark of the LORD’s covenant is under tent curtains.”

Now it came to pass, when David was dwelling in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet,“ See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of the covenant of the Lord is under tent curtains.”

And it came to pass, when David dwelt in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, Lo, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of the covenant of Jehovah dwelleth under curtains.

When David had settled into his palace, he said to Nathan the prophet,“ Look! I am living in a cedar house while the ark of the Lord’s covenant is under tent curtains.”

Now it came to pass, as David sat in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, Lo, I dwell in an house of cedars, but the ark of the covenant of the LORD[ remaineth] under curtains.

When David had settled into his palace, he said to Nathan the prophet,“ Look, I am living in a palace made from cedar, while the ark of the LORD’s covenant is under a tent.”

When David lived in his house, David said to Nathan the prophet,“ Behold, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of Yahweh’s covenant is in a tent.”

Now David built houses for himself in the city of David; and he prepared a place for the ark of God and pitched a tent for it.

for I have not dwelt in a house since the day that I brought up Israel to this day, but I have gone from tent to tent and from one dwelling place to another.

David found favor in God’s sight, and asked that he might find a dwelling place for the house of Jacob.

The king has also sent with him Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the Cherethites, and the Pelethites; and they have mounted him on the king’s mule.

But Zadok the priest, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, Nathan the prophet, Shimei, Rei, and the mighty men who belonged to David, were not with Adonijah.

They informed the king, saying,“ Nathan the prophet is here.” And when he came into the king’s presence, he prostrated himself before the king with his face to the ground.

Now they brought in the ark of the Lord and set it in its place inside the tent which David had pitched for it; and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord.

And they brought in the ark of God and placed it inside the tent which David had pitched for it, and they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before God.

Now Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David with cedar trees, masons, and carpenters, to build a house for him.

Now it came about, when the king lived in his house, and the Lord had given him rest on every side from all his enemies,that the king said to Nathan the prophet,“ See now, I live in a house of cedar, but the ark of God remains within the tent.”Nathan said to the king,“ Go, do all that is in your mind, for the Lord is with you.”But in the same night, the word of the Lord came to Nathan, saying,“ Go and say to My servant David,‘ This is what the Lord says:“ Should you build Me a house for My dwelling?For I have not dwelt in a house since the day I brought up the sons of Israel from Egypt, even to this day; rather, I have been moving about in a tent, that is, in a dwelling place.Wherever I have gone with all the sons of Israel, did I speak a word with one of the tribes of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd My people Israel, saying,‘ Why have you not built Me a house of cedar?’ ” ’Now then, this is what you shall say to My servant David:‘ This is what the Lord of armies says:“ I Myself took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, to be leader over My people Israel.And I have been with you wherever you have gone, and have eliminated all your enemies from you; I will also make a great name for you, like the names of the great men who are on the earth.And I will establish a place for My people Israel, and will plant them, so that they may live in their own place and not be disturbed again, nor will malicious people oppress them anymore as previously,even from the day that I appointed judges over My people Israel; and I will give you rest from all your enemies. The Lord also declares to you that the Lord will make a house for you.When your days are finished and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your descendant after you, who will come from you, and I will establish his kingdom.He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.I will be a father to him and he will be a son to Me; when he does wrong, I will discipline him with a rod of men and with strokes of sons of mankind,but My favor shall not depart from him, as I took it away from Saul, whom I removed from you.Your house and your kingdom shall endure before Me forever; your throne shall be established forever.” ’ ”In accordance with all these words and all of this vision, so Nathan spoke to David.Then David the king came in and sat before the Lord, and he said,“ Who am I, Lord God, and who are the members of my household, that You have brought me this far?And yet this was insignificant in Your eyes, Lord God, for You have spoken also of the house of Your servant regarding the distant future. And this is the custom of mankind, Lord God.Again what more can David say to You? For You know Your servant, Lord God!For the sake of Your word, and according to Your heart, You have done all this greatness, to let Your servant know.For this reason You are great, Lord God; for there is no one like You, and there is no God except You, according to all that we have heard with our ears.And what one nation on the earth is like Your people Israel, whom God went to redeem for Himself as a people, and to make a name for Himself, and to do a great thing for You and awesome things for Your land, because of Your people whom You have redeemed for Yourself from Egypt, from other nations and their gods?For You have established for Yourself Your people Israel as Your own people forever, and You, Lord, have become their God.Now then, Lord God, the word that You have spoken about Your servant and his house, confirm it forever, and do just as You have spoken,so that Your name may be great forever, by saying,‘ The Lord of armies is God over Israel’; and may the house of Your servant David be established before You.For You, Lord of armies, God of Israel, have given a revelation to Your servant, saying,‘ I will build you a house’; therefore Your servant has found courage to pray this prayer to You.Now then, Lord God, You are God, and Your words are truth; and You have promised this good thing to Your servant.And now, may it please You to bless the house of Your servant, so that it may continue forever before You. For You, Lord God, have spoken; and with Your blessing may the house of Your servant be blessed forever.”

However, David had brought up the ark of God from Kiriath jearim to the place he had prepared for it, for he had pitched a tent for it in Jerusalem.

Now it was in the heart of my father David to build a house for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel.But the Lord said to my father David,‘ Because it was in your heart to build a house for My name, you did well that it was in your heart.Nevertheless you shall not build the house, but your son who will be born to you, he shall build the house for My name.’

Twelve months later he was walking on the roof of the royal palace of Babylon.The king began speaking and was saying,‘ Is this not Babylon the great, which I myself have built as a royal residence by the might of my power and for the honor of my majesty?’

“ Is it time for you yourselves to live in your paneled houses while this house remains desolate?”

Until I find a place for the Lord, A dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob.”

Then the Lord sent Nathan to David. And he came to him and said,“ There were two men in a city, the one wealthy and the other poor.

And he spread the tent over the tabernacle and put the covering of the tent on top of it, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.Then he took the testimony and put it into the ark, and attached the poles to the ark, and put the atoning cover on top of the ark.He then brought the ark into the tabernacle, and set up a veil for the covering, and screened off the ark of the testimony, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.

“ I, Nebuchadnezzar, was at ease in my house and happy in my palace.

and sent word through Nathan the prophet, and he named him Jedidiah for the Lord’s sake.

Do you become a king because you are competing in cedar? Did your father not eat and drink And do justice and righteousness? Then it was well for him.

“ You start an ambitious project, but behold, it comes to little; when you bring it home, I blow it away. Why?” declares the Lord of armies.“ It is because of My house which remains desolate, while each of you runs to his own house.

Now the acts of King David, from the first to the last, are written in the chronicles of Samuel the seer, in the chronicles of Nathan the prophet, and in the chronicles of Gad the seer,
