So David left Asaph and his brothers there before the ark of the covenant of the Lord to minister regularly before the ark as each day required,and also Obed-edom and his sixty-eight brothers, while Obed-edom, the son of Jeduthun, and Hosah were to be gatekeepers.And he left Zadok the priest and his brothers the priests before the tabernacle of the Lord in the high place that was at Gibeonto offer burnt offerings to the Lord on the altar of burnt offering regularly morning and evening, to do all that is written in the Law of the Lord that he commanded Israel.With them were Heman and Jeduthun and the rest of those chosen and expressly named to give thanks to the Lord, for his steadfast love endures forever.Heman and Jeduthun had trumpets and cymbals for the music and instruments for sacred song. The sons of Jeduthun were appointed to the gate.

Remember the wondrous works that he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he uttered,

With the help of Zadok of the sons of Eleazar, and Ahimelech of the sons of Ithamar, David organized them according to the appointed duties in their service.

For by the last words of David the sons of Levi were numbered from twenty years old and upward.For their duty was to assist the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of the Lord, having the care of the courts and the chambers, the cleansing of all that is holy, and any work for the service of the house of God.Their duty was also to assist with the showbread, the flour for the grain offering, the wafers of unleavened bread, the baked offering, the offering mixed with oil, and all measures of quantity or size.And they were to stand every morning, thanking and praising the Lord, and likewise at evening,and whenever burnt offerings were offered to the Lord on Sabbaths, new moons, and feast days, according to the number required of them, regularly before the Lord.Thus they were to keep charge of the tent of meeting and the sanctuary, and to attend the sons of Aaron, their brothers, for the service of the house of the Lord.

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits,

Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who alone does wondrous things.

David also commanded the chiefs of the Levites to appoint their brothers as the singers who should play loudly on musical instruments, on harps and lyres and cymbals, to raise sounds of joy.

Then he said,“ Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have striven with God and with men, and have prevailed.”

Oh give thanks to the Lord; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples!

And he said,“ Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who with his hand has fulfilled what he promised with his mouth to David my father, saying,

David assembled all the leaders of Israel and the priests and the Levites.The Levites, thirty years old and upward, were numbered, and the total was 38,000 men.“ Twenty-four thousand of these,” David said,“ shall have charge of the work in the house of the Lord, 6,000 shall be officers and judges,4,000 gatekeepers, and 4,000 shall offer praises to the Lord with the instruments that I have made for praise.”And David organized them in divisions corresponding to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

So the Lord said to Aaron,“ You and your sons and your father’s house with you shall bear iniquity connected with the sanctuary, and you and your sons with you shall bear iniquity connected with your priesthood.And with you bring your brothers also, the tribe of Levi, the tribe of your father, that they may join you and minister to you while you and your sons with you are before the tent of the testimony.They shall keep guard over you and over the whole tent, but shall not come near to the vessels of the sanctuary or to the altar lest they, and you, die.They shall join you and keep guard over the tent of meeting for all the service of the tent, and no outsider shall come near you.And you shall keep guard over the sanctuary and over the altar, that there may never again be wrath on the people of Israel.And behold, I have taken your brothers the Levites from among the people of Israel. They are a gift to you, given to the Lord, to do the service of the tent of meeting.

Make haste, O God, to deliver me! O Lord, make haste to help me!

Fret not yourself because of evildoers; be not envious of wrongdoers!

There he erected an altar and called it El-Elohe-Israel.

On your walls, O Jerusalem, I have set watchmen; all the day and all the night they shall never be silent. You who put the Lord in remembrance, take no rest,and give him no rest until he establishes Jerusalem and makes it a praise in the earth.
