So David left Asaph and his relatives there before the ark of the LORD’s covenant to minister regularly before the ark according to the daily requirements.He assigned Obed-edom and his sixty-eight relatives. Obed-edom son of Jeduthun and Hosah were to be gatekeepers.David left the priest Zadok and his fellow priests before the tabernacle of the LORD at the high place in Gibeonto offer burnt offerings regularly, morning and evening, to the LORD on the altar of burnt offerings and to do everything that was written in the law of the LORD, which he had commanded Israel to keep.With them were Heman, Jeduthun, and the rest who were chosen and designated by name to give thanks to the LORD— for his faithful love endures forever.Heman and Jeduthun had with them trumpets and cymbals to play and musical instruments of God. Jeduthun’s sons were at the city gate.

Remember the wondrous works he has done, his wonders, and the judgments he has pronounced,

Together with Zadok from the descendants of Eleazar and Ahimelech from the descendants of Ithamar, David divided them according to the assigned duties of their service.

for according to the last words of David, the Levites twenty years old or more were to be counted—“ but their duty will be to assist the descendants of Aaron with the service of the LORD’s temple, being responsible for the courts and the chambers, the purification of all the holy things, and the work of the service of God’s temple—as well as the rows of the Bread of the Presence, the fine flour for the grain offering, the wafers of unleavened bread, the baking, the mixing, and all measurements of volume and length.They are also to stand every morning to give thanks and praise to the LORD, and likewise in the evening.Whenever burnt offerings are offered to the LORD on the Sabbaths, New Moons, and appointed festivals, they are to offer them regularly in the LORD’s presence according to the number prescribed for them.They are to carry out their responsibilities for the tent of meeting, for the holy place, and for their relatives, the descendants of Aaron, in the service of the LORD’s temple.”

My soul, bless the LORD, and do not forget all his benefits.

Then David told the leaders of the Levites to appoint their relatives as singers and to have them raise their voices with joy accompanied by musical instruments— harps, lyres, and cymbals.

“ Your name will no longer be Jacob,” he said.“ It will be Israel because you have struggled with God and with men and have prevailed.”

Give thanks to the LORD; call on his name; proclaim his deeds among the peoples.

He said: Blessed be the LORD God of Israel! He spoke directly to my father David, and he has fulfilled the promise by his power. He said,

Then he gathered all the leaders of Israel, the priests, and the Levites.The Levites thirty years old or more were counted; the total number of men was thirty-eight thousand by headcount.“ Of these,” David said,“ twenty-four thousand are to be in charge of the work on the LORD’s temple, six thousand are to be officers and judges,four thousand are to be gatekeepers, and four thousand are to praise the LORD with the instruments that I have made for worship.”Then David divided them into divisions according to Levi’s sons: Gershom, Kohath, and Merari.

The LORD said to Aaron,“ You, your sons, and your ancestral family will be responsible for iniquity against the sanctuary. You and your sons will be responsible for iniquity involving your priesthood.But also bring your relatives with you from the tribe of Levi, your ancestral tribe, so they may join you and assist you and your sons in front of the tent of the testimony.They are to perform duties for you and for the whole tent. They must not come near the sanctuary equipment or the altar; otherwise, both they and you will die.They are to join you and guard the tent of meeting, doing all the work at the tent, but no unauthorized person may come near you.“ You are to guard the sanctuary and the altar so that wrath may not fall on the Israelites again.Look, I have selected your fellow Levites from the Israelites as a gift for you, assigned by the LORD to work at the tent of meeting.

God, hurry to rescue me. LORD, hurry to help me!

Do not be agitated by evildoers; do not envy those who do wrong.

And he set up an altar there and called it God, the God of Israel.

Jerusalem, I have appointed watchmen on your walls; they will never be silent, day or night. There is no rest for you, who remind the LORD.Do not give him rest until he establishes and makes Jerusalem the praise of the earth.
