David told the leaders of the Levites to appoint their fellow Levites as musicians to make a joyful sound with musical instruments: lyres, harps and cymbals.

David told the Levite leaders to appoint other Levites as musicians. He wanted them to make a joyful sound with lyres, harps and cymbals.

David also commanded the chiefs of the Levites to appoint their brothers as the singers who should play loudly on musical instruments, on harps and lyres and cymbals, to raise sounds of joy.

David also ordered the Levite leaders to appoint a choir of Levites who were singers and musicians to sing joyful songs to the accompaniment of harps, lyres, and cymbals.

Then David told the leaders of the Levites to appoint their relatives as singers and to have them raise their voices with joy accompanied by musical instruments— harps, lyres, and cymbals.

when the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking Yahweh; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and praised Yahweh, saying,“ For he is good; for his loving kindness endures forever!” then the house was filled with a cloud, even Yahweh’s house,

and his brothers, Shemaiah, Azarel, Milalai, Gilalai, Maai, Nethanel, Judah, and Hanani, with the musical instruments of David the man of God; and Ezra the scribe was before them.

and with them Heman and Jeduthun with trumpets and cymbals for those that should sound aloud, and with instruments for the songs of God; and the sons of Jeduthun to be at the gate.

All the assembly worshiped, the singers sang, and the trumpeters sounded. All this continued until the burnt offering was finished.When they had finished offering, the king and all who were present with him bowed themselves and worshiped.Moreover Hezekiah the king and the princes commanded the Levites to sing praises to Yahweh with the words of David, and of Asaph the seer. They sang praises with gladness, and they bowed their heads and worshiped.

David was clothed with a robe of fine linen, as were all the Levites who bore the ark, the singers, and Chenaniah the choir master with the singers; and David had an ephod of linen on him.Thus all Israel brought the ark of Yahweh’s covenant up with shouting, with sound of the cornet, with trumpets, and with cymbals, sounding aloud with stringed instruments and harps.

Oh come, let’s sing to Yahweh. Let’s shout aloud to the rock of our salvation!

For in the days of David and Asaph of old there was a chief of the singers, and songs of praise and thanksgiving to God.

Those who sing as well as those who dance say,“ All my springs are in you.”

These are they whom David set over the service of song in Yahweh’s house, after the ark came to rest there.They ministered with song before the tabernacle of the Tent of Meeting, until Solomon had built Yahweh’s house in Jerusalem. They performed the duties of their office according to their order.These are those who served, and their sons. Of the sons of the Kohathites: Heman the singer, the son of Joel, the son of Samuel,the son of Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Eliel, the son of Toah,the son of Zuph, the son of Elkanah, the son of Mahath, the son of Amasai,the son of Elkanah, the son of Joel, the son of Azariah, the son of Zephaniah,the son of Tahath, the son of Assir, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah,the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, the son of Israel.

Also we inform you that it shall not be lawful to impose tribute, custom, or toll, on any of the priests, Levites, singers, gatekeepers, temple servants, or laborers of this house of God.You, Ezra, according to the wisdom of your God that is in your hand, appoint magistrates and judges, who may judge all the people who are beyond the River, who all know the laws of your God; and teach him who doesn’t know them.Whoever will not do the law of your God and the law of the king, let judgment be executed on him with all diligence, whether it is to death, or to banishment, or to confiscation of goods, or to imprisonment.Blessed be Yahweh, the God of our fathers, who has put such a thing as this in the king’s heart, to beautify Yahweh’s house which is in Jerusalem;and has extended loving kindness to me before the king and his counselors, and before all the king’s mighty princes. I was strengthened according to Yahweh my God’s hand on me, and I gathered together chief men out of Israel to go up with me.

and said to them,“ You are the heads of the fathers’ households of the Levites. Sanctify yourselves, both you and your brothers, that you may bring the ark of Yahweh, the God of Israel, up to the place that I have prepared for it.

Let them praise his name in the dance! Let them sing praises to him with tambourine and harp!

I left you in Crete for this reason, that you would set in order the things that were lacking and appoint elders in every city, as I directed you,

Kings shall be your foster fathers, and their queens your nursing mothers. They will bow down to you with their faces to the earth, and lick the dust of your feet. Then you will know that I am Yahweh; and those who wait for me shall not be disappointed.”

Moreover, David and the captains of the army set apart for the service certain of the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who were to prophesy with harps, with stringed instruments, and with cymbals. The number of those who did the work according to their service was:of the sons of Asaph: Zaccur, Joseph, Nethaniah, and Asharelah. The sons of Asaph were under the hand of Asaph, who prophesied at the order of the king.Of Jeduthun, the sons of Jeduthun: Gedaliah, Zeri, Jeshaiah, Shimei, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, six, under the hands of their father Jeduthun, who prophesied in giving thanks and praising Yahweh with the harp.Of Heman, the sons of Heman: Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, Romamti- Ezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, and Mahazioth.All these were the sons of Heman the king’s seer in the words of God, to lift up the horn. God gave to Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.All these were under the hands of their father for song in Yahweh’s house, with cymbals, stringed instruments, and harps, for the service of God’s house: Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman being under the order of the king.

When they had appointed elders for them in every assembly, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they had believed.

Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet! Praise him with harp and lyre!Praise him with tambourine and dancing! Praise him with stringed instruments and flute!

the voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the voice of those who say,‘ Give thanks to Yahweh of Armies, for Yahweh is good, for his loving kindness endures forever;’ who bring thanksgiving into Yahweh’s house. For I will cause the captivity of the land to be reversed as at the first,” says Yahweh.

This is a faithful saying: someone who seeks to be an overseer desires a good work.The overseer therefore must be without reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, sensible, modest, hospitable, good at teaching;not a drinker, not violent, not greedy for money, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not covetous;one who rules his own house well, having children in subjection with all reverence;( but how could someone who doesn’t know how to rule one’s own house take care of God’s assembly?)not a new convert, lest being puffed up he fall into the same condemnation as the devil.Moreover he must have good testimony from those who are outside, to avoid falling into reproach and the snare of the devil.Servants, in the same way, must be reverent, not double- tongued, not addicted to much wine, not greedy for money,holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.Let them also first be tested; then let them serve if they are blameless.Their wives in the same way must be reverent, not slanderers, temperate, and faithful in all things.Let servants be husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.For those who have served well gain for themselves a good standing, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.These things I write to you, hoping to come to you shortly;but if I wait long, that you may know how men ought to behave themselves in God’s house, which is the assembly of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

When the builders laid the foundation of Yahweh’s temple, they set the priests in their clothing with trumpets, with the Levites the sons of Asaph with cymbals, to praise Yahweh, according to the directions of David king of Israel.They sang to one another in praising and giving thanks to Yahweh,“ For he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever toward Israel.” All the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised Yahweh, because the foundation of Yahweh’s house had been laid.

Shout for joy to Yahweh, all you lands!

They offered great sacrifices that day, and rejoiced; for God had made them rejoice with great joy; and the women and the children also rejoiced; so that the joy of Jerusalem was heard even far away.

The things which you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit the same things to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.

Also the hand of God came on Judah to give them one heart, to do the commandment of the king and of the princes by Yahweh’s word.

Sing aloud to God, our strength! Make a joyful shout to the God of Jacob!

It is a good thing to give thanks to Yahweh, to sing praises to your name, Most High,to proclaim your loving kindness in the morning, and your faithfulness every night,with the ten- stringed lute, with the harp, and with the melody of the lyre.
