His name was Abiathar.Abiathar told David that Saul had killed the priests of the LORD.Then David said to Abiathar,“ I knew that day when Doeg the Edomite was there that he would certainly tell Saul! I am guilty of all the deaths in your father’s house!Stay with me. Don’t be afraid! Whoever seeks my life is seeking your life as well. You are secure with me.”

The king then told Abiathar the priest,“ Go back to your property in Anathoth. You deserve to die, but today I will not kill you because you did carry the ark of the sovereign LORD before my father David and you suffered with my father through all his difficult times.”

Your son Ahimaaz and Abiathar’s son Jonathan may go with you and Abiathar.Look, I will be waiting at the fords of the desert until word from you reaches me.”So Zadok and Abiathar took the ark of God back to Jerusalem and remained there.
