為什麼萬國悖逆，萬民圖謀虛妄的事呢？地上的君王們站出來，首領們一同商定，敵對耶和華和他的受膏者，說：「讓我們掙斷他們的捆綁，把他們的繩索從我們身上甩掉！」坐在天上的那一位會譏笑，主會嘲笑他們。那時他在怒氣中向他們說話，在烈怒中使他們惶恐，說：「我在錫安我的聖山上，膏立了我的王。」

非利士人聽說大衛被膏立為以色列的王，非利士全軍就上來尋索大衛。大衛聽說了，就下到要塞去。非利士人來了，散布在利乏音谷。大衛求問耶和華，說：「我可以上去攻打非利士人嗎？你會把他們交在我手中嗎？」耶和華對大衛說：「上去吧，我一定把非利士人交在你手中。」於是大衛來到巴力批拉津，大衛在那裡擊敗了他們，他說：「耶和華在我面前沖潰我的仇敵，如同洪水沖破堤岸。」因此他給那地方起名為巴力批拉津。非利士人把他們的偶像遺棄在那裡，大衛和他的部下就把它們清除了。非利士人再次上來，散布在利乏音谷。大衛求問耶和華，耶和華說：「不要直接上去，要繞到他們後面，從桑樹林對面進攻他們。當你聽到桑樹林的樹梢上有行進聲，就要趕快行動，因為那時耶和華已經在你前面出去攻打非利士人的軍隊了。」大衛就照著耶和華所吩咐的去做，擊殺非利士人，從迦巴直到基色。
