大衛求問耶和華說：「我可以去嗎？我可以去攻打那些非利士人嗎？」耶和華對大衛說：「你可以去攻打非利士人，拯救基伊拉。」

掃羅說：「我們要在夜裏下去追趕非利士人，搶掠他們，直到天亮，不給他們留下一人。」眾百姓說：「你看怎樣好就做吧！」祭司說：「我們要先在這裏親近神。」

我今日才開始為他求問神嗎？絕非如此！王不要歸罪於我和我父全家，因為這事，無論大小，僕人都不知情。」

亞希米勒為他求問耶和華，給他食物，又把非利士人歌利亞的刀給了他。」
