And invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you shall do. And you shall anoint for me him whom I declare to you.”

And he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy and had beautiful eyes and was handsome. And the Lord said,“ Arise, anoint him, for this is he.”Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. And the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon David from that day forward. And Samuel rose up and went to Ramah.

Then all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and said,“ Behold, we are your bone and flesh.In times past, when Saul was king over us, it was you who led out and brought in Israel. And the Lord said to you,‘ You shall be shepherd of my people Israel, and you shall be prince over Israel.’”So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and King David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord, and they anointed David king over Israel.

Therefore the Lord put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David the son of Jesse.Then all Israel gathered together to David at Hebron and said,“ Behold, we are your bone and flesh.In times past, even when Saul was king, it was you who led out and brought in Israel.
