Then invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will let you know what you are to do. You are to anoint for me the one I indicate to you.”

So Jesse sent for him. He had beautiful eyes and a healthy, handsome appearance. Then the LORD said,“ Anoint him, for he is the one.”So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and the Spirit of the LORD came powerfully on David from that day forward. Then Samuel set out and went to Ramah.

All the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and said,“ Here we are, your own flesh and blood.Even while Saul was king over us, you were the one who led us out to battle and brought us back. The LORD also said to you,‘ You will shepherd my people Israel, and you will be ruler over Israel.’”So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron. King David made a covenant with them at Hebron in the LORD’s presence, and they anointed David king over Israel.

but he did not inquire of the LORD. So the LORD put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David son of Jesse.All Israel came together to David at Hebron and said,“ Here we are, your own flesh and blood.Even previously when Saul was king, you were leading Israel out to battle and bringing us back. The LORD your God also said to you,‘ You will shepherd my people Israel, and you will be ruler over my people Israel.’”So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron. David made a covenant with them at Hebron in the LORD’s presence, and they anointed David king over Israel, in keeping with the LORD’s word through Samuel.

Now take action, because the LORD has spoken concerning David:‘ Through my servant David I will save my people Israel from the power of the Philistines and the power of all Israel’s enemies.’”
