第三天大衛和跟隨的人到了洗革拉，亞瑪力人早已侵犯了南地和洗革拉了。他們擊破了洗革拉，又放火燒城；擄了其中的婦女和所有的人、無論大小，都沒有殺死一人，只是帶着上路走了。大衛和跟隨的人到了那城，只見城已被火燒燬，他們的妻子兒女都被擄了去。大衛和跟隨的人就放聲大哭，直哭到沒力氣哭。大衛的兩個妻子、耶斯列人亞希暖、和那作過迦密人拿八妻子的亞比該、也被擄了去。大衛非常困苦；因為眾民各為自己的兒女而心裏苦惱，都說要拿石頭打死大衛；大衛卻靠着永恆主他的上帝而剛強。大衛對亞希米勒的兒子祭司亞比亞他說：『請將神諭像給我拿過來。』亞比亞他就將神諭像拿過去到大衛面前。大衛就求問永恆主說：『我可以追趕這羣匪幫麼？我追得上追不上呢？』永恆主對他說：『你可以追趕；一定追得上，並且一定搶救得來。』於是大衛和跟隨他的六百人就走，來到比梭谿谷；有餘留的便停在那裏。大衛和四百人往前追趕；有二百人因為精疲力竭、不能過比梭谿谷，便停住了。這四百人在野外遇見一個埃及人，就帶他到大衛面前，給他飯喫，給他水喝；又給他一塊無花果乾、兩團葡萄乾；他喫了精神就復原，因為他已經三天三夜沒有喫飯，也沒有喝水。大衛問他說：『你是屬誰的？是出於哪裏的？』他說：『我是埃及的青年人，是亞瑪力人的奴僕；因為我前三天病了，我主人竟把我撇棄了。我們侵犯了基利提的南方和屬猶大的地、以及迦勒的南方；又放火燒了洗革拉。』大衛問他說：『你肯領我們下到這羣匪幫那裏不肯？』他說：『你要指着上帝向我起誓不殺死我，也不將我送交我主人手裏，我就領你下到這羣匪幫那裏。』那人領大衛下去；只見他們都橫七豎八地臥在地面上，大家正喫喝歡躍地慶祝他們從非利士人之地和猶大地所拿來的那一大批掠物。大衛擊殺了他們，從黃昏直到晚上；除了四百個騎駱駝的青年人逃走之外，他們的人都沒有一個逃脫的。

以下這些人是大衛勇士的首領，是在他建國的事上極力擁護他的，又是和以色列眾人一同立他為王、照永恆主所說關於以色列人的話的。
