David went out to meet them and said,“ If you have come in peace to help me, we are friends. But if you have come to betray me to my enemies when I am innocent, then may the God of our ancestors see it and punish you.”

大衛出迓曰、爾若平和而來以助我、則我心與爾相契、我既無辜、爾若鬻我於敵、願我列祖之上帝鑒察之、譴責之、

大闢出迓、告曰、如爾心懷平康、欲來助我、則我與爾和好。如欲欺我、付無辜於敵手、則望列祖之上帝、加以督責。

大衛出迎、謂之曰、爾來意若平善、欲助我、則我願與爾結盟、如欲欺我、將我無辜者付於敵手、願我列祖之天主、鑒察加責、

David went out to meet them and said to them,“ If you have come to me in peace to help me, I am ready for you to join me. But if you have come to betray me to my enemies when my hands are free from violence, may the God of our ancestors see it and judge you.”

David went out to meet them. He said to them,“ Have you come to me in peace? Have you come to help me? If you have, I’m ready for you to join me. But suppose you have come to hand me over to my enemies when I haven’t even harmed anyone. Then may the God of our people see it and judge you.”

David went out to meet them and said to them,“ If you have come to me in friendship to help me, my heart will be joined to you; but if to betray me to my adversaries, although there is no wrong in my hands, then may the God of our fathers see and rebuke you.”

And David went out to meet them, and answered and said unto them, If ye be come peaceably unto me to help me, my heart shall be knit unto you; but if ye be come to betray me to mine adversaries, seeing there is no wrong in my hands, the God of our fathers look thereon, and rebuke it.

And David went out to meet them, and answered and said unto them, If ye be come peaceably unto me to help me, mine heart shall be knit unto you: but if[ ye be come] to betray me to mine enemies, seeing[ there is] no wrong in mine hands, the God of our fathers look[ thereon], and rebuke[ it].

David went out to meet them and said,“ If you come to me in peace and want to help me, then I will make an alliance with you. But if you come to betray me to my enemies when I have not harmed you, may the God of our ancestors take notice and judge!”

David went out to meet them, and answered them,“ If you have come peaceably to me to help me, my heart will be united with you; but if you have come to betray me to my adversaries, since there is no wrong in my hands, may the God of our fathers see this and rebuke it.”

Arise, O Lord, in anger! Stand up against the fury of my enemies! Wake up, my God, and bring justice!

When Abner and twenty of his men came to Hebron, David entertained them with a great feast.Then Abner said to David,“ Let me go and call an assembly of all Israel to support my lord the king. They will make a covenant with you to make you their king, and you will rule over everything your heart desires.” So David sent Abner safely on his way.But just after David had sent Abner away in safety, Joab and some of David’s troops returned from a raid, bringing much plunder with them.When Joab arrived, he was told that Abner had just been there visiting the king and had been sent away in safety.Joab rushed to the king and demanded,“ What have you done? What do you mean by letting Abner get away?You know perfectly well that he came to spy on you and find out everything you’re doing!”

When Jehu left there, he met Jehonadab son of Recab, who was coming to meet him. After they had greeted each other, Jehu said to him,“ Are you as loyal to me as I am to you?”“ Yes, I am,” Jehonadab replied.“ If you are,” Jehu said,“ then give me your hand.” So Jehonadab put out his hand, and Jehu helped him into the chariot.

The Lord gives his own reward for doing good and for being loyal, and I refused to kill you even when the Lord placed you in my power, for you are the Lord’s anointed one.Now may the Lord value my life, even as I have valued yours today. May he rescue me from all my troubles.”

Above all, you must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourselves in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ. Then, whether I come and see you again or only hear about you, I will know that you are standing together with one spirit and one purpose, fighting together for the faith, which is the Good News.

I call on the God of our ancestors— the God of your grandfather Abraham and the God of my grandfather Nahor— to serve as a judge between us.” So Jacob took an oath before the fearsome God of his father, Isaac, to respect the boundary line.

I appeal to you, dear brothers and sisters, by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, to live in harmony with each other. Let there be no divisions in the church. Rather, be of one mind, united in thought and purpose.

Teach me your ways, O Lord, that I may live according to your truth! Grant me purity of heart, so that I may honor you.

King Joram demanded,“ Do you come in peace, Jehu?” Jehu replied,“ How can there be peace as long as the idolatry and witchcraft of your mother, Jezebel, are all around us?”

Look, my father, at what I have in my hand. It is a piece of the hem of your robe! I cut it off, but I didn’t kill you. This proves that I am not trying to harm you and that I have not sinned against you, even though you have been hunting for me to kill me.“ May the Lord judge between us. Perhaps the Lord will punish you for what you are trying to do to me, but I will never harm you.As that old proverb says,‘ From evil people come evil deeds.’ So you can be sure I will never harm you.Who is the king of Israel trying to catch anyway? Should he spend his time chasing one who is as worthless as a dead dog or a single flea?May the Lord therefore judge which of us is right and punish the guilty one. He is my advocate, and he will rescue me from your power!”When David had finished speaking, Saul called back,“ Is that really you, my son David?” Then he began to cry.And he said to David,“ You are a better man than I am, for you have repaid me good for evil.

And I will give them one heart and one purpose: to worship me forever, for their own good and for the good of all their descendants.

So Samuel did as the Lord instructed. When he arrived at Bethlehem, the elders of the town came trembling to meet him.“ What’s wrong?” they asked.“ Do you come in peace?”

But even Michael, one of the mightiest of the angels, did not dare accuse the devil of blasphemy, but simply said,“ The Lord rebuke you!”( This took place when Michael was arguing with the devil about Moses’ body.)

Help, O Lord, for the godly are fast disappearing! The faithful have vanished from the earth!Neighbors lie to each other, speaking with flattering lips and deceitful hearts.

One day Adonijah, whose mother was Haggith, came to see Bathsheba, Solomon’s mother.“ Have you come with peaceful intentions?” she asked him.“ Yes,” he said,“ I come in peace.

And Jonathan made a solemn pact with David, because he loved him as he loved himself.

In fact, if the God of my father had not been on my side— the God of Abraham and the fearsome God of Isaac— you would have sent me away empty handed. But God has seen your abuse and my hard work. That is why he appeared to you last night and rebuked you!”

After David had finished talking with Saul, he met Jonathan, the king’s son. There was an immediate bond between them, for Jonathan loved David.

All the believers were united in heart and mind. And they felt that what they owned was not their own, so they shared everything they had.

He did not retaliate when he was insulted, nor threaten revenge when he suffered. He left his case in the hands of God, who always judges fairly.

And the Lord said to Satan,“ I, the Lord, reject your accusations, Satan. Yes, the Lord, who has chosen Jerusalem, rebukes you. This man is like a burning stick that has been snatched from the fire.”

Dear brothers and sisters, I close my letter with these last words: Be joyful. Grow to maturity. Encourage each other. Live in harmony and peace. Then the God of love and peace will be with you.
