When all the elders of Israel had come to King David at Hebron, he made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord, and they anointed David king over Israel, as the Lord had promised through Samuel.

All the elders of Israel came to see King David at Hebron. There he made a covenant with them in front of the Lord. They anointed David as king over Israel. It happened just as the Lord had promised through Samuel.

遂遣人攜之入、其人赤色、目秀貌美、耶和華曰、斯人是也、起而膏之、撒母耳取角中之膏、於其諸兄中膏之、自是以後、耶和華之靈大臨大衛、撒母耳啟行、歸於拉瑪、○

耶何耶大使王及民、與耶和華立約、俾為耶和華之民、又使王與民立約、

耶弗他與基列長老偕行、民遂立之為長為帥、耶弗他在米斯巴、陳述其辭於耶和華前、○

會眾在上帝室與王立約、耶何耶大謂眾曰、王子必當嗣位、循耶和華論大衛子孫之言、

昔耶和華藉我所言、今行於爾、奪國於爾手、以畀爾鄰大衛、

眾民遂往吉甲、於耶和華前、立掃羅為王、獻酬恩祭於耶和華、掃羅與以色列眾、欣喜不勝、

臣僕以車載其屍、自米吉多至耶路撒冷、葬於其墓、國民膏約西亞子約哈斯、立之為王、以繼其父、○

二人乃於耶和華前立約、大衛居林、約拿單歸其家、

撒母耳曰、是日耶和華裂以色列國、使之離爾、以賜爾鄰、賢於爾者、
