When all the elders of Israel had come to King David at Hebron, he made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord, and they anointed David king over Israel, as the Lord had promised through Samuel.

All the elders of Israel came to see King David at Hebron. There he made a covenant with them in front of the Lord. They anointed David as king over Israel. It happened just as the Lord had promised through Samuel.

So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord. And they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of the Lord by Samuel.

So there at Hebron, David made a covenant before the Lord with all the elders of Israel. And they anointed him king of Israel, just as the Lord had promised through Samuel.

耶西就派人去把大卫带回来。他面色红润，眼目清秀，外貌英俊。耶和华说：“就是这一个，你起来膏立他吧！”撒母耳就拿起盛油的角，在他的兄长中膏立他。从那天起，耶和华的灵就大大感动大卫。后来撒母耳动身往拉玛去了。

耶和华对撒母耳说：“你为扫罗悲哀要到几时呢？我已经弃绝他作以色列的王了。你把膏油盛满了角，然后去吧！我要差派你到伯利恒人耶西那里去，因为我在他的众子中，已经预定了一个为我作王。”

于是犹大人来到希伯仑，在那里膏立了大卫作王，统治犹大家。有人报告大卫说：“埋葬扫罗的是基列‧雅比人。”

你要请耶西参加献祭的筵席，我就会指示你当作的。我指示你的那人，你要为我膏立他。”

以色列的众长老都到希伯仑来见王。大卫王在希伯仑耶和华面前与他们立约，他们就膏立大卫作以色列的王。

耶何耶大又使王和人民与耶和华立约，好使他们作耶和华的人民；又使王与人民立约。

于是耶弗他与基列的长老一同回去了，众人就立耶弗他作他们的首领，作他们的统帅；耶弗他在米斯巴，在耶和华面前，把自己的一切话都说了出来。

全体会众在神的殿里与王立约。耶何耶大对他们说：“王的儿子应当按照耶和华应许大卫的子孙的话作王。

耶和华已经照着他藉我所说的话行了，他把王国从你手中夺去，赐给别人，就是大卫。

众民就都到吉甲去，在那里在耶和华面前立扫罗为王，又在那里在耶和华面前献平安祭。扫罗和以色列众民都在那里，非常欢喜。

他的臣仆把他的尸体从米吉多用马车运载，送到耶路撒冷，把他埋葬在他自己的坟墓里。国民选举约西亚的儿子约哈斯，膏了他，立他接续他父亲作王。

于是他们二人在耶和华面前立了约。大卫仍住在何列斯，约拿单却回自己的家去了。

撒母耳就对他说：“今天耶和华把以色列国从你身上撕裂，赐给比你更好的人。
