Canaan was the father of Sidon his firstborn, and of the Hittites,

Canaan’s oldest son was Sidon, the ancestor of the Sidonians. Canaan was also the ancestor of the Hittites,

就說：迦南當受咒詛，必給他弟兄作奴僕的奴僕；又說：耶和華－閃的神是應當稱頌的！願迦南作閃的奴僕。

大衛差人到約押那裏，說：「你打發赫人烏利亞到我這裏來。」約押就打發烏利亞去見大衛。

赫人回答亞伯拉罕說：

約旦河西，住山地、高原，並對着黎巴嫩山沿大海一帶的諸王，就是赫人、亞摩利人、迦南人、比利洗人、希未人、耶布斯人的諸王，聽見這事，

就是在迦南地幔利前、麥比拉田間的洞；那洞和田是亞伯拉罕向赫人以弗崙買來為業，作墳地的。他們在那裏葬了亞伯拉罕和他妻子撒拉，又在那裏葬了以撒和他的妻子利百加；我也在那裏葬了利亞。那塊田和田間的洞原是向赫人買的。」

迦南生長子西頓，又生赫和耶布斯人、亞摩利人、革迦撒人、希未人、亞基人、西尼人、亞瓦底人、洗瑪利人、哈馬人，後來迦南的諸族分散了。迦南的境界是從西頓向基拉耳的路上，直到迦薩，又向所多瑪、蛾摩拉、押瑪、洗扁的路上，直到拉沙。

從此，那塊田和田間的洞就藉着赫人定準歸與亞伯拉罕作墳地。

後來亞伯拉罕從死人面前起來，對赫人說：

利百加對以撒說：「我因這赫人的女子連性命都厭煩了；倘若雅各也娶赫人的女子為妻，像這些一樣，我活着還有甚麼益處呢？」

我要打發黃蜂飛在你前面，把希未人、迦南人、赫人攆出去。

迦南的父親含看見他父親赤身，就到外邊告訴他兩個弟兄。
