Save Me, O God
To the choirmaster: according to 69:0 Ps. 45, titleLilies. Of David.

1Save me, O God!
For 69:1 ver. 14, 15; See Ps. 32:6; 130:1; Job 22:11the waters have come up to my neck.69:1 Or waters threaten my life
2I sink in deep 69:2 ver. 14; Ps. 40:2mire,
where there is no foothold;
I have come into deep waters,
and the flood 69:2 Ps. 124:4sweeps over me.
369:3 Ps. 6:6I am weary with my crying out;
69:3 [Ps. 22:15] my throat is parched.
69:3 Ps. 119:82, 123; Deut. 28:32; Isa. 38:14My eyes grow dim
with 69:3 See Ps. 31:24waiting for my God.

469:4 Ps. 40:12More in number than the hairs of my head
are 69:4 Cited John 15:25those who hate me 69:4 [Ps. 35:7; 59:3, 4; 109:3; 119:161] without cause;
mighty are those who would destroy me,
69:4 Ps. 35:19; 38:19those who attack me with lies.
What I did not steal
must I now restore?
5O God, you know my folly;
the wrongs I have done are not hidden from you.

6Let not those who hope in you 69:6 See Ps. 25:2be put to shame through me,
O Lord God of hosts;
let not those who seek you be brought to dishonor through me,
O God of Israel.
7For it is 69:7 Jer. 15:15; [Ps. 44:22]for your sake that I have borne reproach,
that dishonor has covered my face.
8I have become 69:8 [Ps. 31:11; 38:11; Job 19:13; John 1:11]a stranger to my brothers,
an alien to my mother’s sons.

9For 69:9 Cited John 2:17; [Ps. 119:139]; See Ps. 132:1-5zeal for your house has consumed me,
and 69:9 Cited Rom. 15:3; [Ps. 89:41, 50]the reproaches of those who reproach you have fallen on me.
10When I wept and humbled69:10 Hebrew lacks and humbled my soul with fasting,
it became my reproach.
11When I made 69:11 See Ps. 35:13sackcloth my clothing,
I became 69:11 See Job 17:6a byword to them.
12I am the talk of those who 69:12 [Gen. 19:1; Esth. 2:19] sit in the gate,
and the drunkards make 69:12 See Job 30:9songs about me.

13But as for me, my 69:13 Ps. 109:4prayer is to you, O Lord.
At 69:13 Isa. 49:8; 2 Cor. 6:2; [Ps. 32:6]an acceptable time, O God,
in the abundance of your steadfast love answer me in your saving faithfulness.
14Deliver me
from sinking in 69:14 ver. 2the mire;
69:14 Ps. 144:7let me be delivered from my enemies
and from 69:14 ver. 1, 2the deep waters.
15Let not the flood sweep over me,
or the deep swallow me up,
or 69:15 Ps. 55:23the pit close 69:15 Num. 16:33its mouth over me.

16Answer me, O Lord, for your 69:16 Ps. 63:3; 109:21steadfast love is good;
according to your abundant 69:16 Ps. 106:45mercy, 69:16 See Ps. 25:16turn to me.
1769:17 See Ps. 27:9Hide not your face from your servant,
69:17 See Ps. 18:6for I am in distress; 69:17 Ps. 102:2; 143:7make haste to answer me.
18Draw near to my soul, redeem me;
ransom me because of my enemies!

19You know my 69:19 ver. 10, 11; [Heb. 12:2]; See Ps. 22:6reproach,
and my shame and my dishonor;
my foes are all known to you.
2069:20 [See ver. 19above] Reproaches have broken my heart,
so that I am in 69:20 [Matt. 26:37] despair.
I 69:20 Ps. 142:4; [Isa. 63:5] looked for 69:20 Jer. 15:5pity, but there was none,
and for 69:20 Job 16:2comforters, but I found none.
21They gave me 69:21 Deut. 29:18; Matt. 27:34poison for food,
and for my thirst they gave me 69:21 Matt. 27:48; Luke 23:36; John 19:29; [Mark 15:23]sour wine to drink.

2269:22 Cited Rom. 11:9, 10; See Ps. 35:4-8; 109:6-15Let their own 69:22 Ps. 23:5table before them become a snare;
69:22 [1 Thess. 5:3]and when they are at peace, let it become a trap.69:22 Hebrew; a slight revocalization yields (compare Septuagint, Syriac, Jerome) a snare, and retribution and a trap
2369:23 Isa. 6:10; [Matt. 13:14] Let their eyes be darkened, so that they cannot see,
69:23 Dan. 5:6; Nah. 2:10and make their loins tremble continually.
24Pour out your indignation upon them,
and let your burning anger overtake them.
2569:25 Cited Acts 1:20; [Matt. 23:38; Luke 13:35]May their camp be a desolation;
let no one dwell in their tents.
26For they 69:26 [Zech. 1:15] persecute him whom 69:26 Isa. 53:4you have struck down,
and they recount the pain of 69:26 [Job 19:21]those you have wounded.
2769:27 Neh. 4:5Add to them punishment upon punishment;
may they have no acquittal from you.69:27 Hebrew may they not come into your righteousness
28Let them be 69:28 Ex. 32:32; Rev. 3:5; [Phil. 4:3] blotted out of the book of the living;
let them not be 69:28 [Ezek. 13:9; Luke 10:20; Heb. 12:23]enrolled among the righteous.

29But I am afflicted and in pain;
let your salvation, O God, 69:29 Ps. 20:1set me on high!

30I will 69:30 Ps. 28:7praise the name of God with a song;
I will 69:30 See Ps. 34:3magnify him with 69:30 See Ps. 50:14, 23thanksgiving.
31This will 69:31 Ps. 50:13please the Lord more than an ox
or a bull 69:31 Lev. 11:3with horns and hoofs.
32When 69:32 Ps. 22:26; 34:2the humble see it they will be glad;
you who seek God, 69:32 Ps. 22:26; 34:2let your hearts revive.
33For the Lord hears the needy
and 69:33 [Ps. 68:6]does not despise his own people who are prisoners.

34Let 69:34 Ps. 96:11; 98:7; Isa. 44:23; 49:13; See Ps. 148:1-12heaven and earth praise him,
the seas and everything that moves in them.
35For 69:35 See Ps. 51:18; [Isa. 44:26]God will save Zion
and build up the cities of Judah,
and people shall dwell there and possess it;
3669:36 Ps. 102:28; Isa. 65:9; [Ps. 37:29]the offspring of his servants shall inherit it,
and those who love his name shall dwell in it.
