Hide Me from the Wicked

To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.

1Hear my voice, O God, in my 64:1 Ps. 55:2complaint;

preserve my life from dread of the enemy.

2Hide me from 64:2 [Ps. 55:14]the secret plots of the wicked,

from the throng of evildoers,

3who 64:3 See Ps. 57:4whet their tongues like swords,

who 64:3 See Ps. 11:2aim bitter words like arrows,

4shooting from 64:4 [Ps. 10:8] ambush at the blameless,

shooting at him suddenly and 64:4 Ps. 55:19without fear.

5They 64:5 Jer. 23:14; Ezek. 13:22hold fast to their evil purpose;

they talk of 64:5 See Ps. 140:5laying snares secretly,

thinking, 64:5 See Job 22:13“Who can see them?”

6They search out injustice,

saying, “We have accomplished a diligent search.”

For 64:6 Ps. 49:11the inward mind and heart of a man are deep.

764:7 Ps. 7:12, 13; [Ps. 58:7]But God shoots his arrow at them;

they are wounded suddenly.

8They are brought to ruin, with their own 64:8 See Prov. 12:13; 18:7tongues turned against them;

all who 64:8 See Ps. 40:3see them will 64:8 Jer. 18:16; 48:27; See Ps. 22:7wag their heads.

9Then all mankind 64:9 [See ver. 8above] fears;

they 64:9 Jer. 50:28; 51:10tell what God has brought about

and ponder what he has done.

10Let 64:10 See Ps. 32:11; Job 22:19the righteous one rejoice in the Lord

and 64:10 See Ps. 11:1take refuge in him!

Let all 64:10 See Ps. 7:10the upright in heart exult!
